FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

Last three items from Gillian as the newsletter is all about the Fishing Competition and Summer Festival.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

SwimmingA great day was held at Waitoki School pool for the years 5-8 yesterday! Thank you Mr Irvine for organizing this. Students who placed in the swimming sports will be presented with a certificate at the Awards Assembly at the end of the term.

Students will be informed if they have made it into the representative teams. This year the year 5&6’s are competing at the Hibiscus Coast swimming sports on Thursday 22nd March and the year 7&8’s are competing with the Kaipara schools on 16th March.

Well done to everyone who participated and thank you to all those parents that helped on the day.

The Ridiculous Rhyme Show – We all enjoyed this hilariously funny show with Andy and Joe from England. It used language, rhyming words and comedy to educate and entertain, the older students were also able to gain an insight into how these two young men had enabled their goals and dreams to come alive in a question and answer session after the show.

If you have not paid your $5.00 please do so as soon as you can. We are hoping not to have to invoice anyone with outstanding payments. We also do want to have more entertainment, one each term so this will gauge if we can continue to do so.

OTHER

An Apology from myself – Finally, I must apologise for any offence I may have caused with the omission of some of the FOWS group. I used the wrong list to get my names from.

The full FOWS group is made up of Kylie Allen, Vivien Bayer, Isabelle Blais-Smith, Gillian Bray, Nikki Browne, Cindy Cator, Emma Coupe, Denise Ditchburn (Chairperson), Kay Elliott, Nicky J, Kirsty Latham, Vanessa Lloyd, Fiona McIntyre, Jason McIntyre, Rosalind (Ros) Minto, Vanya Paladin, Louise Pengelly, Nadine Phillips, Rachel Poninghaus, Candace Pope, Dee Robinson, April Sawyer, Catherine Southwick, Kate Stevens, Wendy Taylor and Sandy Tucker.

Over 25 people!! This is fantastic!! There are also another group of supporters of which I acknowledge here but do not have the list of names. The format of the group is that you do not have to attend every meeting but are actively in contact and there to support. Think about joining this year and making a difference in our school, you would certainly be welcome.

FINALLY

Thank you Jason McIntyre for the fishing signs along the driveway. I have got my fishing rod out and have found a wee spot to fish in!! Jason has sourced lots of prizes with his team of supporters. Come and give it a go, register, fish from one of the many wharves, rocks or beaches, you do not need to have a boat!! Join the Wainui Facebook page for updates!!

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray

Our annual Fishing Competition and Summer Festival is fast approaching on 18th March. This week’s donation is a toy for the lucky dip (wrapped and marked “B” for a boy or “G” for a girl).

These events can not be run without generous donations of time (please contact isabelle.blais-smith@harcourts.co.nz if you have a few spare hours on the 18th to man a stall) and generous donations of sponsorship. Please find below a list of stalls that we would like sponsorship for. If your family has a business that would be able to sponsor a stall or if you’re unable to attend on the day but would still like to help perhaps you would like to sponsor a stall. We have the following stalls that we’re looking for sponsorship for:

– Sausage Sizzle                        $250

– Ice Cream/Juicies                    $300

– Drinks                                      $150

– Nachos                                  $300

– Candyfloss                              $100

– Coffee                                     $250

– Pirate Ship Bouncy Castle      $290

We would like to give a big thank you to the Smith Family of Dave, Bron and Ollie who have already come on board to sponsor our Assault Course for the event. Thank you Congo Design!

If you think you can help please contact either the office or fows@wainui.school.nz. Thank you so much to everyone who has already given so generously!
