FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou, hello all,

This week I start with celebrating all the participants in Group Day!! Well done to every family for all the work, feeding, training, love and care you gave to your animals. Many of you obtained awards with ribbons for all your efforts. Special mention to Marley Straka with his champion goat, congratulations!! Well done to everyone else for doing such a great job participating patiently. I have listed all the students involved, well done. Mackenzie & Hamish Allen, Lexie & Neva Atkinson, Ty, Bella & Harry Browne Hale, Lucy Elliott, Jasmine & Lily Haswell, Jessie Holmes, Madison & Mikayla Houghton, Connor & Ashley Lloyd-Read, Riley & Sterling Purdie, Ellena & Emelia Quarterman, Keira, Raya & Kyron Sams, Marley & Rita Straka, Charlize Taylor, Molly Taylor, Chalise Tolhopf and lastly Ali Campbell with her goat Quinn.

Ali has a wonderful article in online “STUFF” with her goat Quinn. Do go and look this up, it has been shared on the Wainui Facebook page.

Special huge thank you to Kylie Allen, Nikki Browne and Kay Elliott for organising the lunch for the judges and officials on behalf of our school. These ladies do a tremendous amount in a voluntary capacity for our community, we are so appreciative of you all. Please thank them when you see them and think about offering to help as well, they would be very happy to welcome you.

WHATS BEEN HAPPENING

Summer is here!!

Hats – All students are required to wear a hat outside. Please provide a named hat that covers your child’s face and neck if you wish. We have school bucket hats for sale as well.

Sunscreen – Is available at school, you are welcome to also pop a small bottle in your child’s bag. Please be aware the cap must be tight as it will make a mess in the bag if it leaks out. NB: Sunscreen DOES NOT replace a cap or hat.

Water – We are a water-only school. We do have water fountains but all students should have their own personally named water bottle. We encourage our students to drink at any time when they need it.

Film Competition – Thank you to all of those who have entered the Wainui School Short Film Competition. We will be judging them, against the competition criteria, in the very near future. Results will be announced and the winning movie played at the Pukeko Team Assembly on Friday, the 23rd of November.

COMING UP

Kids for Kids Concert – Once again it is this time of the year our Kids for Kids choir, a group of passionate singers, head down to join hundreds of other children in the mass choir performances at the Bruce Mason theatre in Takapuna. Once again Jackie Clarke and Nathan King perform a range of songs with the children. It is always a wonderful show professional and fun!! All the students have been learning the songs over the last weeks. They participate in one rehearsal during the day on Thursday and perform the show in the evening, this Thursday 8th November. I look forward to attending the show as always and will see you there if your child is participating. Thank you to Mrs Richards and Mrs Blackburn for training and organising this.

Athletics Year 5-8 – Is this Friday 9th November at Sinclair Park. Buses will be used to transport all the children. The details have been shared with you all in a letter. Please ensure your child is prepared with the right clothing and footwear for athletics, something warm to wear as it can be cold first thing. A hat, sunscreen, a water bottle or even two. There is food for sale organised by the Taupo cycling team. It is a lovely park if you are new to this, come and bring a blanket and umbrella to sit and watch your children compete. Come and join us for the day or some of the day.

Masterchef 2018 – Organised by Caroline Gilpin and the year 8 School Councillors. On the 14th and 15th of November, the Year 1 to 8 contestants will participate in the heats of the Wainui Masterchef. The student councillors are proud to present this competition for the 4th time. A letter with further information is being sent home today. The heats for Year 1, 2, 3, 4 are on 14th November and Year 5, 6, 7, 8 is on 15th November.

Strike Day Monday 12th November – Please remember next Monday the teachers are striking. The BOT will inform after tonight’s meeting if the school is officially “Closed” or “Open”. We ask you to inform the office if you need supervision.

FINALLY

Please keep an eye on the dates as we have changed a few especially the team production performances. We don’t like to change dates as we know many of you are well organised and very busy. However the teams practicing the shows wanted a bit more time to enable the students to practice and be even more proud of their performances!!!

The Tui Team show is now on 28th November matinee 11.30am, evening show on Thursday 29th November at 6.00pm. Pukeko Team show is now on Tuesday 4th matinee, Wednesday 5th December, times to be confirmed.
