FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

This week we began with the strike, and as I write this, I am unsure of where we will head with the outcome as there are strikes all week throughout the country. Thank you for keeping your children home on Monday we appreciate the support with this.

On-Line Newsletters – We are going to move to only having a newsletter on-line rather than continuing to print out a copy for each family. We are aware many of the newsletters printed are either not taken home or become wastage. Please let the office know if you still want a paper copy and we will ensure you get one. We would like this change to be fully implemented very soon, this newsletter today will be the last one everyone will receive a printed copy of.

WHATS BEEN HAPPENING

Kids for Kids 2018 – What a fantastic show! Some of the students from years 4- 8 participated in the Kids for Kids show last Thursday at the Bruce Mason Center in Takapuna. This show has been going for 25 years, the format is very much the same but the professionalism, the songs, the lead singers Nathan King and Jackie Clarke just keep getting better!! Chloe Kay sang a wonderful solo with Jackie Clarke, “Language “ by Annie Crummer. We were all very proud of her and look forward to Chloe sharing this with us all at a school occasion. Thank you to Mrs Richards and Mrs Blackburn for training and supporting the choir with learning the songs. To the choir of: Emilie Adlam, Bella Browne Hale, Zali Cooke, Ava Elliott, Lucy Elliott, Kate Flinn, Hannah Garside, Caroline Gilpin, Christopher Gilpin, Cameron Goodger, Te Pourewa Hape-Webby, Destiny Harris Hatley, Serenity Harris Hatley, Brodie Headford, Paris Headford, Reilly Irvine, Chloe Kay, Gabby Minton, Talia Minton, Xela Odedra, Ben Partner, Tara Phillips and Grace Wallace-Pram. Congratulations, we loved that you all had such a wonderful time on stage, singing lots of the time with actions.

Athletics Year 5-8 – Last Friday the senior and intermediate school held their annual athletics at Sinclair Park. This was also a great day, signaling as always summer is well and truly here. The students all competed in the traditional athletics activities of high jump, long jump, discus, shotput, and sprints.

Thank you Mr Irvine for organising this day and to all the teachers for making it so enjoyable. The placegetters will have an opportunity to attend interschool athletics. The year 7&8’s with the Kaipara schools and the year 5&6’s with the Hibiscus Coast schools.

COMING UP

Masterchef 2018 – The heats begin this week. Caroline Gilpin one of the year 8 School Councillors is the chief organiser and will keep us in the loop as to where, when and who will be in which heats. The Juniors are all making sandwiches and the seniors cooking eggs.

Team Musical Shows – Pukeko Team show and Tui team Show have both had a change of date. We do apologise as we have made a real commitment to make sure we have all the dates set well in advance. Sometimes though we just need more time to make something work and that is what has happened in these cases.

The Tui Team’s show has now gone back to their original dates of Tuesday 20th November matinee at 11.30am, evening show on Thursday 22nd November at 6.30pm.

Pukeko Team’s show is now on Wednesday 12th December at 5.30pm.

FINALLY

This week the FOWS (Friends of Wainui School) have a survey they would like you to fill in. This is to help plan for future fundraising and community events. Our current FOWS have over the last two years raised each year more than we budgeted for which has been just fantastic! The BOT budgets for $30,000 to be raised to ensure we can function as well as we can. In 2017 and now 2018 we have raised around $40,000!! This has been amazing, but to keep this going we simply need more volunteers to help or do we simply change the way we do things if we can’t get more volunteers. I cannot thank our current FOWS enough, you have done an amazing job, but I know it is coming at a cost of burn-out!! So please click on this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BBYDR5M to complete the survey. Thank you Nikki Browne for putting the survey together, there are prizes for the children if you complete it!!

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray
