FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

Still no real rain!! Hard to believe isn’t it? I am sorry it has been affecting our being able to use the pool, water levels are critical.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

Routine –  Thank you to everyone for following the processes as asked for last week in attendance requests, most appreciated! Keep up the good work.

Secondly – Thank you to everyone for either contributing your donation or contributing to the garden to table programme either with products requested or with extra donations of money to help.  We are able to keep our programmes going really well with some contribuitons from you all.

Garden to Table – On Wednesday’s the Year 5 -8  students all particpate in this programme.  We are resurrecting the garden and cooking with produce gleaned from the garden or donated from other gardens / orchards. Please do not hestitate to contact us if you have extra produce. This year we have added a few chickens again to the revamped chook run and house. They will be producing eggs to use as well.

Welcome to Abby Cottingham who joins us as the garden specialist. Abby is mum to Riley and Sterling Purdie and was a keen volunteer in the gardens last year. Abby has a weath of knowledge around gardens, plants and foraging and she is always keen to share her knowledge so do come and help and learn from Abby.  You do not have to have older children to volunteer. Richard the caretaker is also involved with composting and waste minimisation.  There is a wonderful garden of sustainability happening.

FOWS (Friends Of Wainui School) – Met last Wednesday for the first time this year. There were a large group of parents keen to be involved and make a difference and this is just wonderful.  Thank you for your enthusiasm and positivity.   2020 will be another great year.  This year we aim to include some time to socialise and get to know each other at the meeting.  The meeting dates are set for the rest of the year and will be on the website. Thank you to all members of FOWS who have put their hands up and taken on a role. Congratulations to

ERO are here. This is the Education Review Office. They come to see our school and I quote the opening paragraph sent in a letter.

“ERO’s intent is to ensure all learners in our system are successful. We are interested in supporting your school’s improvement journey”. This week the Board of Trustees, myself and all the teachers will be telling our story. Our reviewers are Kim Hughes and Toni Casserils.  Some times there will be two more people joining them.  These people are reviewing the process of review. Kim Hughes, Toni Casserils and Carol Stoney were welcomed in a Powhiri at first on Monday, this in itself is a journey as we could not do this 6 years ago.
