The staff at Wainui School thank you for your understanding and patience enabling most of us to attend a special event to celebrate Wendy Taylor’s life. Wendy was at Wainui for many many years, her own children both came here and went on to achieve great things, the Olympics for Erin, then becoming a doctor, and Matt competing in triathlons around the world. Wendy and her family exemplified the Wainui School values of which Wendy was so proud! Wendy was very special to us all, always positive, always looking for improvement for Wainui School, better ways to meet the needs of us all, children, staff and parents. Retirement should have been longer for Wendy, as she said she hadn’t finished doing everything but it wasn’t to be. Wainui was so fortunate to have Wendy for so many years, her talents were huge, she loved teaching she loved to coach sport, she loved Ag Day as her roots were the farm. She loved to be so fit and active herself. This week will be a tough one for the community of Wainui School and we will all need to dig deep for Resilience. A reminder that the school will be closing at 1 pm on Wednesday but a few staff members will remain on site those families that need it. Buses and sKIDS will run at the usual times. Once again thank you for your support. We appreciate this.
WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING
Daffodil Day – Well done Madi Gooding and the year 8s for organising this event for charity – very meaningful for us all this year. The yellow was fantastic and we raised $348.40 for The Cancer Society. We also had fun dancing, dressing up and participating at break times in the games and activities the house leaders had prepared.

WaiFactor Semi-Finals – These are all complete, well done to all the contestants!! Year 8 students, Oscar Price and Eva Pengelly, this year’s organisers are now looking forward to the final on Friday 15th September at 1:50pm.
NEXT WEEK
Neighbourhood Morning Tea – This is on Wednesday 6th September 2023 in the Year 3/4 Kiwi Team at 10:30am. The Kiwi Team as a part of their local Histories curriculum have invited all the neighbours close to Wainui School for a morning tea.
The team would like to learn more about our school’s history and our community. They can maybe learn some more about us and our school. The team also think this is a kind thing to do!
COMING UP
Planning and Reporting Changes – Jason Irvine and myself have recently attended a workshop with the Ministry of Education and lots of other Principals and the School Trustees Association to ensure we are clear on the requirement for our school in terms of strategic planning and reporting. There are a number of changes coming in that must be adhered to before the beginning of 2024. However, before we embark on writing a new strategic plan, as a board we need to consult and gather your views as parents on a number of areas. We have devised some open-ended questions and would love everyone to contribute to the future of Wainui School with your ideas. These will be distributed very soon.
Culture Diversity and World Gratitude Day, Thursday 21st September – A perfect way to conclude Term 3. Jakob Brown and his team are planning a day that aims to promote appreciation for the positive aspects of diverse cultures and encourage gratitude for the richness they bring to society. The day will include performances from our musicians and kapa haka group, and much more! Keep an eye out for more details.
Ag Day and Country Fair, Friday 20th October – Is not far away. We know because we have had spring lambs at school all week!! We just love it! The FOWS and the staff at school work closely together to ensure this day is well planned and successful. Please read this and have a think on how your family can help? Each week we will be asking for help in different ways. Number one is try and ensure you are able to have this day or at least half of this day off work!! I say this every year but if you only have one day off make it this day!! Invite grandparents, aunties, neighbours there is time for them to get organised if they live a distance away!
FINALLY
As the term is fast finishing, we continue to grow in numbers and will be starting a new New Entrant class after the holidays. Please let us know if you know anyone else enrolling as we need to ensure we have our classes well planned. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful teacher Mrs Tammy Fuller. Tammy has been relieving and been very busy on the FOWS. Many of you will know Tammy as mum to Holly and Arlo!! We are so pleased you are able to step in and work alongside Mrs Allen to create this new class!

Netball
Congratulations to Silverdale Rugby J5 Black Mambas who have just finished their season on Saturday, they had an undefeated season winning all 16 games! They are the only team in the whole competition to do so! The team is made up of Cooper Semenoff, Grayson Hewitt, Landen Semenoff, Frank Jarvie, Brody Kerr, Zain Ouzoun, Millen Hamblyn, James Gray and Jake Robertson. They are coached by Ryan Hewitt and Zander Semenoff.
