Kia ora Koutou,

We are loving the sun and the feeling of summer! The grass has grown back around the bike track, and yesterday we were all out enjoying this amazing improvement as well as practicing for the upcoming athletics days!! Luckily, for Mr Bray, the rain has stopped so he’s able to mark out the athletics track and throwing areas. And now we can all get practicing!!

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

Camp Raglan – The year 5-8 students and their teachers accompanied by 37 parents/ relatives all spent a successful 3 days and 2 nights at Camp Raglan. They were so fortunate as the weather on their side of the North Island was far better than we experienced!! So much fun was had by all, there was an amazing water slide, archery, and hilarious camp concerts! Thanks to a wonderful group of parents and teachers these students were able to all have a wonderful time. The smiles are still very apparent; so much laughter and confidence brimming. Thank you to Miss Stevenson for all your wonderful organisation and to the teachers: Mr Irvine, Mr Cochrane, Mr Ng and Mr Wotton for working hard over these days, giving of your time and having so much fun. Thank you parents helpers: Joseph Andrell, Heidi Austen, Kelly Barnes, Isaac Brothers, Anthony Campbell, Emma Coupe, Michelle Davies, Casey Dicks, Marcus Dixon, Benn Francino, Carla Freestone, Tony Graystone, Cam Hadley, Bill Hale, Ryan Hewitt, Marisia Inger, Paul Jarvie, Matt Jones, Keagan Lehmann, Julie Linton, Damian Lodge, Jane Maddox, Chad Mexted, Simon Olivier, Shai Patel, Hein Pretorius, Karin Robertson, Sasha Robertson, Paige Robinson, Emily Russell, Chris Scott, Elle Seamons, Tui Shepheard, Michelle Thomas, Justine van Dam, Nicola White and Tui Whittaker for taking time off work and giving of your time so generously! Without parents we cannot have a camp, you are all vital to its success. A special mention to Billy Hale for all the years of camp you have given, Harry is the last of 4 children leaving at year 8 – we think you’ve done 13 camps! Thank you!

Group Day – I want to congratulate the children, parents and animals led by our wonderful Mrs Allen for braving the most awful weather to compete at the annual “Group Day” at Helensville Showgrounds!! The mud was challenging, the rain although not cold also challenging but Resilience was strong, we were all smiling and most of the students got a ribbon if not quite a few. Special mention goes to Harry Browne Hale with his goat “Oreo” winning Supreme Champion of goats, the biggest prize meaning a cup as well, along with the overall Points Prize cup. Harry also won senior Champion for Rearing & Grooming, Leading & Personal Control and High Jump. In the Lamb competition, Emily Thompson (Senior) won Call & Most Obvious Pet, Madison Freestone (Senior) won best for Wool, Sailor Sandwell (Junior) won the Rearing & Grooming section and also the overall Champion cup for Rearing & Grooming. From Mrs Allen – Despite the rainy, cold weather during last week’s Group Day, Harry, Emily, Scarlett, Madison, Ollie, Taylah and Sailor showed remarkable resilience. Your determination and effort made me extremely proud. None of you gave up and you all gave your absolute best. Kia kaha team!

This was a very special day for Kylie Allen as in remembrance of her own father, Neil Sidwell who was a judge for many years at Ag Days and Group Days a new trophy has been added to the table of cups. Neil Sidwell passed away last year.
