FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Kia ora Koutou,
Today the teachers at Wainui School are all participating in a Writers Toolbox Professional Development. This programme is a structured literacy programme that all the classes in years 3-8 are using with great success. Structured literacy is very much in the media currently as is a real focus of the current Government. Wainui School is very much on board and has been on the journey for a couple of years with BSLA in the junior school having started last year, Sharp Reading that has been at our school for a number of years and this year the addition of the Writers Toolbox. Please do feel free to ask any of our teachers for any information as regards these programmes and how they are used with your child.
BOARD NEWS
We are writing to inform you about an upcoming improvement to our school environment. The Ministry of Education will soon begin a project to install permanent fencing around our school grounds. This important safety measure is aimed at ensuring the security of our children/tamariki and providing a safe environment for their learning and play.
We have been informed that the majority of these changes will be in effect at the start of Term 4, so the school entrance may look a little different, however pick up and drop off will remain the same and we are looking forward to seeing the transformation it makes to our school. Once the fencing is complete, we will be making further changes to the school entrance to incorporate the new nikau palms created by our Year 7 and 8 students. This will enhance the overall appearance of the entrance.
We understand that any changes to the school environment can raise questions. Please feel free to contact the school office if you have any concerns or would like to discuss this project further.

FINALLY
I will be away as from Thursday to join 10 other principals on a trip to Finland and attend a study week on “why it is the best system in the world!!” This is a real privilege and able to happen due to the awarding of a special fund all principals received as a part of our salary increase in 2022 to focus on their own development and health and wellbeing. I am very fortunate that our school has two wonderful Deputy Principals who can very ably lead and manage the school whilst I am away.
Mr Bray will be joining me. We will also go on to England afterwards and visit a few schools and will return in the first week back.
Ka kite ano,
Gillian Bray
