WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

Reflections of Term 3 – Our school value for the end of term 3 is Whaiwhakaaro – Reflective- and a fabulous way for us to look back over the term as we head into the holiday break.

It has been an extremely busy and exciting term, full of wonderful activities and learning experiences that our students have engaged in. To choose just a few to highlight is quite a challenge!

Chinese Students – We hosted our Chinese students at the beginning of the term which was very successful and added to the richness and diversity of our school. Many of the students commented that they wish to return as they enjoyed their stay with us so much.

Kiwi Valley Farm Park – The Pukeko team thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Kiwi Valley Farm Park, where they had hands-on experiences with farm animals and explored rural life. This was a great way for our children to explore their sense of curiosity into caring for animals as we lead into our annual Ag Day early in term 4.

Book Week Fair – Our Book Week Fair was a highlight with students enthusiastically delving into new stories and sparking excitement for reading. Thank you for your support in encouraging a lifelong love of learning and imagination.

School & InterSchool Cross Country – Our School Cross Country was a true display of determination and spirit, with students giving their all. Congratulations to the 25 year 5/6 students who went on to represent our school in the InterSchool Cross Country last week. The weather made the conditions for the InterSchool Cross Country quite challenging but using our value of resilience our students did Wainui School proud. Special mention goes to Emerson Buchanan who placed in the top 10 for his age group, well done Emerson! Thank you to Mr Cochrane for organising this great event for all of the schools in Rodney.

Life Education – Harold, from Life Education, visited us in weeks 6 and 7. This was an extremely valuable addition to our teaching programme and a way to provide our tamariki essential lessons about well-being and personal development.

School Camp Yr 5/6 – The year 5/6 camp in week 7 was an unforgettable experience for our Tui team, filled with adventure, teamwork, and personal growth. Camps not only create lasting memories for students and parents but also offer invaluable opportunities for students to develop confidence and resilience. A special thanks to our dedicated teachers who put in countless hours to ensure the camp’s success, making it all possible.

Daffodil Day – A huge thank you to our school community for your incredible support on Daffodil Day. This special day helps raise vital funds for cancer research and support services, reminding us all of the power of kindness and coming together for a cause that affects so many lives.

Writers’ Toolbox – We’ve also seen some amazing creativity from our students’ with the introduction of the Writers’ Toolbox in Years 3-8. This online writing programme has really sparked enthusiasm for writing and storytelling, and we can’t wait to see how our students continue to grow as budding authors.

.

MasterChef Competition – Hamish Fincham, one of our school leaders in year 8, led our MasterChef competition for our Year 1-4 students. This was a fantastic event, thank you Hamish for your hard work and leading your team to organise this event in our school. The level of creativity and culinary skill shown by our younger students was nothing short of impressive. We definitely have some future chefs in the making, and I’m sure this experience has inspired many of them to continue exploring their talents in the kitchen. Finalists for the Yr 3&4 competition will be sent out this week and the final will be held early in term 4. Winners for year 1-4 will be shared after this final part of the competition.

THIS WEEK

Fire and Safety – Year 7/8 This Wednesday, 25th September our Year 7 and 8 students will participate in fire safety lessons. These lessons are essential in teaching our students about the importance of fire safety and ensuring they know how to react safely in emergencies. Thank you to our fire safety officers who are providing this experience for our students.

Tui Team Assembly – Our last Assembly for the term is led by the Tui Team on Friday, 27th September at 2pm. I am looking forward to seeing some of the antics they got up to at their recent camp!

FINALLY

Lost Property – As we near the end of term 3, I encourage you to have a look at our lost property before Friday and return any school library books that you may have.

Enjoy your holiday break, stay safe, take care, and enjoy some well-earned rest with your family. Let’s all return refreshed and ready for an exciting Term 4, filled with new challenges and opportunities for growth.

Ngā mihi nui

The September/October holidays are an excellent opportunity for the children to continue to bond and work with their animals – I encourage you to spend extra time training, loving and caring for your pets.  Happy rearing and training in the holidays!

We need volunteers! The stalls are allocated to each class and will be given out to each class to fill. Please watch out for an email this week with a word doc form to fill in for volunteers to man a stall for one hour on Ag Day. Many hands make light work!

Please keep an eye out for the Ag Day booklet (in the eldest child’s bag) that explains how the day works and it will have all the extra information you may want to know about the day itself!

Donations: A huge thank you to those who have been dropping off donations for Ag Day day raffles and games. This week’s donation is a King sized bar of chocolate for the very popular Chucko-choc game!! If you haven’t donated yet, the holidays would be a great time to get everything together to bring in the first week back at school! If you don’t have time to make a weekly donation, you’re more than welcome to make a $30 donation to the school and we will do the shopping on your behalf (you can make this donation via Kindo as well).

Market Stalls: Thank you to those who have filled in the Market Stall form. There is still time to register if you wish to have a stall. Register your Market Stall table to sell toys, clothes, books, crafts, plants, preserves, old fashioned lollies (e.g. coconut ice, fudge, toffee, hokey pokey) OR second hand goods etc. If you would like to have a stall at our Ag Day please fill in this registration form Ag day & Gala Market Stalls Registration form.

Pet Eggs (For children without Ag Day animals): I hope the egg habitat creations are going well!! If you haven’t started, the holidays would be the perfect time to get it started and completed. You will need to purchase an egg, give it a name, birthday, best friend, favourite colour, favourite food, favourite song and hobby/interests. Pet Egg Information sheet.

There are more printed sheets on the trolley by the Ag Day display in the office if you don’t have access to a printer.

If you have any questions (big or small) about Ag Day, please email me on kallen@wainui.school.nz

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM LIFESTYLE VETS TO ALL LAMB OWNERS:

It’s time for your lovely little lamb to have a booster vaccine. Remember, booster vaccinations must be given 4-6 weeks after the first initial ”sensitiser” dose was administered in order for your lambie to be fully protected from nasty bugs like tetanus and other clostridials.

We will be at Wainui School in the carpark on Thursday 26th September from 3pm-3.45pm to carry these out. If your lamb’s testicles were too small to ring at the last visit, we will be carrying this out for you as well.

If your lamb received a 5 in 1 vaccine, it will require a 5 in 1 booster. The cost of the booster vaccine is $15 per lamb.

If your lamb received a 7 in 1 vaccine, it will require a 7 in 1 booster. The cost of this booster vaccine is $20 per lamb.

It is also important to ensure you lamb receives its first drench from 6 weeks of age and that it receives regular drenching to prevent internal parasitism. We recommend using ivermatrix tape drench at 1ml per 5kg. We can dispense a 20ml pottle of this drench for $30 which should cover you to Ag day and beyond.

If you have any question, please don’t hesitate to contact our team at info@thelifestylevet.co.nz.

Year 8 Leavers Hoodies Fundraising – We are having another Juicies Sale Day on Friday 27th September – the last day of the term! Juicies are $2.00 each, order from your teacher in the morning. Please support our fundraiser to cover some of the cost of our leavers hoodies!

House T-Shirts – The new House T-Shirts were so popular that we are doing another round of orders for them! So if you missed out last time they are available to order via Kindo or in the office for $20. The sizes range from 4 – 16.

Calendar Art – Over the last few weeks all of the classes at Wainui have been working hard to complete a high-quality piece of art. These pieces can then be turned into various products to be purchased. These products make great Christmas gifts and are a lasting memory of your child’s creativity.
The following can be purchased via KINDO.
Calendars $20
Cards $16
Diaries $20
Mouse mats $16
Sketch pads $16
This is a fundraiser for our school and your support with our fundraising ventures is always greatly appreciated. Teachers will email parents with links to the completed artworks. The artwork will also be on display in classrooms at our annual Ag Day and that will be the final day to order products. (Friday 25th October).
