FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

Welcome to the last week of Term 3 (and to daylight saving). A term like no other!! Here we are at the end of the term looking forward to moving down the levels in the near future, lets hope this is very soon! A massive thanks to every parent, teacher and student that has adapted to distance/ home learning becoming better at GOOGLE MEET or ZOOM, completed hard pack activities and created and made the commitment to learning in different ways. Again a huge thank you to you all!!

Level 3 students and teachers at school have made the best of learning in a bubble of 10, being mindful of distancing and caring of each other. Thank you.

A Big Welcome to Miss Abby Cavanagh –  Abby is the new teacher for Rata class. We are all looking forward to meeting you in person. Abby was to come just at the beginning of Lockdown, but we felt it better for both classes of students not to change until the end of Level 4. Miss Cavanagh is very excited to join us at Wainui.

We have been busy planning for next term and all that Term 4 brings and it is almost complete.  The dates for the beginning of next year are also set to enable families to plan (again hard to believe). These dates are on the website and school calendar. For those of you who have downloaded the APP they feed onto the calendar on the APP as well!!

Ag Day This is in the planning for the first Friday in Term 4.  If we are in level 2 it will be a very small version of what to expect as there are strict rules around gatherings and numbers. Therefore there will be no market as we have had in the past. The main emphasis is on the traditional artifacts and classroom creations and ensuring the animals can be judged. We have stayed with Friday as traditionally this is always our day because the animal judges are booked and this fits with all the schools in the area having Ag Day.  Incidentally, most local schools have changed their Ag Days to a Friday from Saturday because of the requirements of Level 2. For those of you that have to work, if the COVID level forces us to limit the numbers, we will film and photograph all the classrooms and the animals. If we are in Level 1 we will have more food and some games, but it will still not be the big event of the last few years. In the last week of the holidays, a team of organisers will make the final call as to the event. This week we really do need an indication of how many animals we have so please fill in this registration form – https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1phaBgnTRIloox7o7MJZfHPDpfyaWWynX8z-ol95368I/edit#responses Having a very good idea of the numbers of animals will help with the planning of the day.   Click here for further information on Ag Day https://wainui.school.nz/ag-day-2021/

Tui Team Camp – An initial indication of the camp feasibility form has been sent to all parents and caregivers of the Tui Team. Please fill this in this week as we need a clear idea of numbers and commitment to go ahead with camp. Thank you to the Rimu class for the high number of forms filled in.  Could the other three classes please do so as well.  I have attached the link for your ease – https://forms.gle/B7p9C9PZVGiFJKqv8

NEXT WEEK

In the holidays the school will be having some rooves replaced. These are part of our Ministry of Education planned work.

Take care everyone and have a great break even if we are still in Lockdown.

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray
