WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

Quiz Night – Fun, laughs, great costumes, a Quiz, silent and live auctions and the added bonus of live music and dancing made for a fabulous night last Saturday!! Huge thanks to Annaliese Hewitt, Nikki Mallon our key organisers, Milly Mexted for the food, Joseph Long for the donation of the Puhoi beer. The FOWS team of Nikki Browne, Cairin Long and Lesley Ann Linn for the extras and help on the night.  Simone du Bernard, Harcourts Cooper & Co for her generous sponsorship of the night. Simone actually bid on the Torpedo 7 donated bike, won the auction and has now donated this back to the school!!! Another huge thank you, it will be a wonderful auction item later in the year.

This annual fundraiser has raised approx $11,000 we are all thrilled!!! Thank you to everyone for supporting this night by attending or donating. Many local business donated vouchers; special thank you to the Van Dam family who donated another Pool Robot for the Live Auction. A full list of the generous donations will be in next week’s newsletter.

Sadly neither of the staff teams came anywhere near winning!! But Mr Irvine did win best dressed male!! The winning team was VOTE JOE – yes led by Joe Long!! Congratulations to the winners!

Board Elections – Seven parents are standing in this election for the Wainui School Board. This is very positive for our school, each member is keen to contribute to the future of our school with service, and skills you will read about in their bios. Thank you to each candidate for standing to be a Board member, we are fortunate as a school to have a this amount of interest. Voting papers are being issued by 10th August and there is a Ballot box in the office for the return of the voting papers. Voting closes at 4pm on Election Day, 7th September 2022. If you are posting your voting papers, they must be received no later than 5 days after the date of the election, so try to post them as early as possible.

THIS WEEK

Book Week – Our annual Book Fair is here! It is like having an exciting bookstore come into our school. Each class is given a time to visit and explore the books on offer. The Book Fair is open for purchases before school, from 8.30am – 9.00am, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week, and will be open after school on Wednesday and Thursday during our Learning Conversations. EFTPOS and credit card payment is available at the school office with each book sold earning rewards for our school!

Learning Conversations – This Wednesday 10th August from 1 – 5 pm and Thursday 11th August from 3 – 7pm we have the second round of school interviews/ conversations for families to come and talk with the child and teacher about learning, the mid-year report and set goals for the rest of 2022. We always aim for 100% attendance as this partnership is very important to enable us all to work together in moving forward.

The last  few years have led to “Learning Loss” for some children, for reasons we are all well aware of. At this time you can also make a time to meet with myself or Mr Irvine (SENCO). Please free free to email us to make a time. Please note, school finishes at the normal time of 3pm on Wednesday 10th August but if you would like to pick up your child/ children at 1pm you are welcome to. Please come to the office to sign them out first.

Kāhui Ako ki Orewa – The two new schools in our area, Ahutoetoe School and Nukumea School would like to join our Kāhui Ako ki Orewa. If you would like to discuss this or give feedback about the schools joining our Kāhui Ako please contact Cameron Lockie, Silverdale School cameronlockie@silverdaleprimary.school.nz

FINALLY

Lost Property!!! There is a huge pile of sweatshirts, hoodies and jumpers, lots of sneakers and some hats and various other bits. We have laid it all on two tables outside Matai classroom by the office.
