FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

What an incredible week the world has seen with the mourning of Queen Elizabeth. The sheer size and organisation of the event, the capacity for people to come together and mourn yet celebrate has been something we have never seen. Once again I focus on the values that have been exemplified that fit so well with our school,. The respect that has been shown, the time for reflection – the value we are focusing on this last two weeks of term, being relational welcoming people to London from all over the world despite some difference of opinion at times. The resourcefulness of the London public service to ensure this event goes without a hitch!! Finally, the resilience the Royal family must need to show to be in the public eye so voraciously.  Please remember no school Monday 26th September, this is New Zealand’s public holiday .

This weeks focus:

  • Wainui School Board Results
  • Cultural Diversity Day and World Gratitude Day
  • InterSchool Cross Country Year 5&6
  • School Disco
  • Kapa haka performance and Te Reo Consultation
  • Sports Prizegiving
  • Young Farmer

WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING

  • Wainui School Board Results – Congratulations to our new Board members; Pip Catchpole, Annaliese Hewitt, Joseph Long, Chad Mexted and Chris Scott for becoming the new Board for Wainui School over the next three years. I look forward to working with you, driving the strategic plan of our school forward and ensuring we continue to be a team, serve the community and govern with integrity. Tonight we have a short handover meeting, we farewell our outgoing Board members, Nikki Browne, Pete Adlam, Lindsay Ledger and thank you for your service over what can only be described as “unprecedented times”. Our school is in a great place from many years of stable Boards.

Personalised Artwork Calendars, Cards, Diaries, Mouse Mats & Sketch Pads – A School Fundraiser

This is a fundraiser from our school and the pricing is as follows:
– Calendars and Diaries $20 each
– Cards, Mouse Mats and Sketch Pads $16 each
To order, head to Kindo before the last day of term (Friday 30 September). There are also order forms in the office and you can pay by eftpos if you prefer.

These make outstanding individual gifts for friends and family and are perfect for posting overseas. The turnaround time is somewhere between 4-8 weeks depending on how busy the printers are, but you will have your amazing art pieces prior to the end of Term 4.

Ag Day and Gala – Friday 21st October 2022 – Below is the suggested list for donations if you’re able to help out. Your very generous donations will then be used to make raffles, prizes, lolly bags, etc for our event. If you don’t have time to make a weekly donation, you’re more than welcome to make a $30 donation to the school and we will do the shopping on your behalf (you can make this donation via Kindo as well). There is a collection bucket in the office to drop your donations off. Thank you for supporting our school!

Donations list:

5 Weeks to Ag Day.  19-23 September.  Toys for lucky dip wrapped and marked “ Girl”, “Boy” and “All” eg $2 shop toys.

4 Weeks to Ag Day.  26-30 September.  Bag of sweets, lollies, chocolates to make lolly bags.

School Holidays (Weeks 3 and 2) – If you haven’t donated yet, now would be a great time to get everything together to bring in the first week back at school! Or do you have/know a local business who would be willing to donate an item for our raffles or prize table?

1 Week to Ag Day.  17-21 October.  A cake box will be sent home to each family to fill with home baking. Cakes are the biggest seller, but any baking is very welcome.
