FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou, a warm welcome back to term 4 2022!

It is very hard to believe we have hit term 4 and only actually have 9 weeks in this term. The teachers have been busy with a full Teacher Only Day last week, focusing on literacy, reading and writing with a focus on structured literacy, spelling using a new system “the code”. Also ensuring all the events are well planned from this weeks Young Farmer, Ag Day, Camp for years 5-8, Christmas in the Country, Prizegiving, Graduation, Junior Christmas Picnic, Athletics Day – it is all planned!!

Plus, lots has happened since the end of term in our school grounds due to the work of the community!! The Board, the FOWS team and other families have all enabled our school to progress, develop, be safer and look and feel amazing!! If you haven’t been to school yet come on down for Ag Day and see what has been improved!!

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

  • New Carpark – We have a fantastic new carpark that houses 38 vehicles and makes use of an area that hasn’t been able to be used in the school. This project has been driven by the new School Board members and has been funded by various companies in the community for the key priority of improving the safety of our pick-up, drop-off times and large events. Special mention to Chad Mexted for ensuring this was all done by the time we started back at school including the planting of the “Bunds” and the painting of the lines. Thank you to Xander Semenoff for getting his team of workers to do this. This has been a huge job! Thank you to everyone involved, as soon as a list of the names is given to me I will thank the companies and families involved for this generosity, there will also be a sponsors board for all these companies erected near the new carpark area.
  • Driveway Layout and Use – The new carpark has changed the use of all the drop-off and pick-up areas, it will take us a bit of time to get used to. Thank you to Milly Mexted and Carin Long who are helping each day to enable the pick-up time to work. Can we please ask you to:
    • Fill up “Little Bush Road”, the carpark on the left first, lea park as close as you can (safely) evening  in makes it easier.
    • Then fill up the new carpark, there will be a crossing painted on the driveway for the safest place to cross. When you park please go up on foot to pick-up your children!!
  • Working Bee – An awesome morning was spent by approx 30 adults and 25 children weeding, planting, mulching, edging, trimming trees and above all preparing for Ag Day. Special thank you to Xander Semenoff for bring all the tools and ensuring under the hall is the best it has ever been!! We plan on having one a term so come and join the fun.
  • Special thank you A1 Sure Services for the mulch we have been able to mulch all our gardens. To get a quote for some treework or buy firewood or mulch, here is their website:  www.a1sureservices.co.nz

  • Young Farmer – We have great weather and loads of fun “competitive” activities happening today!! Photos will be put on the website under the Gallery. Thank you Mr Irvine for organising this. Finals are on Ag Day.

THIS WEEK it is all about Ag Day & Gala!!

  • Today the cake boxes are coming home, please fill to send back on Thursday or Friday morning!! We still need helpers for the stalls but thanks to everyone who has put their name forward.
