WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

Year 8 Graduation – Last Thursday, the Year 8 graduate class of 2022 had their end-of-year graduation dinner at the Wainui Golf Club. It was an opportunity for the students to celebrate their primary school achievements prior to starting their next chapter of schooling. Thank you to all of the parents, who attended the dinner, and to Miss Stevenson for making it all possible.

Dance Curriculum – Over the past week, all of the students have been working with the Dance Curriculum tutors Dean and Omar to learn and polish their dance performances, which will be shown off at Christmas in the Country. The children have responded really well to the challenge and we may have also uncovered some hidden talents! Needless to say, the teachers couldn’t pass up the opportunity to display their skills and have been practising too…but all will be revealed!

Junior Playground Extension – This morning, we finally opened the Junior Playground Extension to the delight of the students. The gigantic enclosed slide, the lunar spinner, and the lily pad swing were an instant hit with our junior children, who fully tested the rigidity of the equipment. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Jamie Ritchie and Monique Wilcock of Build2 for the installation of the retaining wall, and the spreading of 40m3 of mulch by Chad Mexted and Joseph Long over the weekend.

Vehicle Access – A special thanks to Dan Broederlow and Victor of Pipeline and Infrastructure for donating their time and machinery to complete the dedicated vehicle access from Little Bush Road onto the field.

THIS WEEK

Christmas in the Country – This Thursday, our community will get together and celebrate Christmas at our annual ‘Christmas in the Country’. Your children have been practicing their singing and dancing so the entertainment is all sorted. Unfortunately, the weather does not look like it is going to play it’s part. A decision on whether the event will go ahead as planned will be made on Wednesday. In the meantime, keep those fingers and toes crossed!

Takahe and Tui Team Assembly – Join us this Friday, the 9th of December at 2pm for the Tui and Takahe team assembly. As usual, there will be plenty to share and celebrate in what will be our Year 8 students last whole-school assembly at Wainui School.

NEXT WEEK

Year 5-8 Prizegiving – To celebrate the curriculum and leadership-based achievements of our senior children, we will be holding an end-of-year prizegiving on Thursday, the 15th of December. The parents and caregivers of all prize winners will be contacted by the school office to inform them that their child will be receiving something at the awards ceremony.

Year 1-4 End of Year Picnic – To acknowledge the end of the 2022 school year, the Year 1 to 4 children will celebrate with team picnics. The Year 1/2 Picnic is on Wednesday, the 14th of December starting at 12:00 pm and the Year 3/4 picnic will be on Tuesday, the 13th of December starting at 10:45 am. The team leaders will be in contact with you to let you know what your child needs to bring.

End-of-Year Reports – At the end of the year, a school report will be sent home summarising your child’s academic progress this year. Accompanying it will be the PaCT reports for Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Other information in the envelope will be how to order stationery for 2023, The Resilience Project information, and if your children is moving into Year 5, 6, 7, or 8, information on their swimming programme at Northern Arena in Term 1, 2023.

Farewell Assembly and Finish Time – On Friday, the 16th of December at 9:30 am, we will hold the final assembly of 2022 where we will farewell all of those students leaving Wainui School. The school day will finish at 1 pm and the school buses will run from this time.

FINALLY

Lost Property – On the tables outside Matai class (beside the office) is a plethora of lost property looking for it’s rightful owner. This must be claimed prior to the last day of the year or it will be washed and donated to charity. Come and check out the pile if you know your child has forgotten to bring an item of clothing home!

Book Return – It’s that time of the year where we ask you to return all library books to the library or readers to your classroom teacher so they can be accounted for in preparation for other children to use them in 2023. The purchase of new reading material each year is expensive so the less we need to spend on replacement books, the more we have to spend on other learning resources.

Ngā mihi nui e te whānau. Ka kite ano,

Jason Irvine

Link to website: https://sites.google.com/wainui.school.nz/enterpriseprojects/home?authuser=0 Alternatively you can use the QR Code to access the website. On this website you will find all of the products created by us this term. The purpose of this project was to create a product or service, identify our customers and decide how best to market and sell our product in order to make a small profit.

We will be setting up market stalls at Christmas in the Country. This will give the community the opportunity to purchase our items at rock bottom prices. Many of our products would make fantastic Christmas gifts.

We will also be giving everyone the opportunity to purchase our products, via email or by visiting our classrooms before school and at breaks from Thursday 8th December through till Tuesday 13th December.

Please enjoy looking through our website at the many products on offer.
