FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

The last newsletter for 2022!! Wow, can’t quite believe it!! This week is all about celebrating the year, a year that started in the pandemic with many restrictions, moved to a time that was hampered with so much illness and finished with the ability to celebrate in full but was then in some respects hampered by the weather!!

THIS WEEK

We are celebrating with:

  • Christmas in the Country
  • Sports Prizegiving
  • Kiwi Team Picnic
  • Pukeko Team Picnic
  • Prizegiving Years 5-8
  • Farewell Assembly
  • Pool Opening – Pool Access/ (keys) for the Holidays

Christmas in the Country – Like you we were so sad the weather destroyed our Thursday night’s plans BUT rather than cancel this event altogether we made the decision to go ahead on the Monday afternoon. The decision was for the children and the staff to be able to perform the dances we had all enjoyed learning and practicing!! We knew it would not suit lots of working parents but we had no other time in the evenings due to an already crowded time for the year for parents and staff.

However we were amazed at how many people were able to come at the last minute and were thrilled you could join us and be a part of the Christmas spirit!! Thank you everyone!!

Thank you to ex-pupil Sam Robinson (ex Wainui Pupil) and friends who came to film our performance and took photos. As soon as we have the results we will post the link to you all.

Thank you to the FOWS mums, Leslie Ann, Millie, Cairin, Monique, Lisa, Nikki Mallon and for the food organisation and to the staff for the cooking and serving!!

The dances were a part of our PE and Health/ Arts curriculum – we all learnt over two weeks with Dean Langham and Omar Nasim from Dance Curriculum Team. We have loved working with this company.

Next year let’s hope the weather is our friend!! We know how much this is a part of the Wainui Calendar.

Sports Prizegiving – Thank you to all the coaches and managers of our spring and summer sports for all your support for our teams and individuals. We love our sport at Wainui, enabling so many children to have this opportunity. Congratulations to all the team and competitors for your achievements and development.

Special thank you to Mr Cochrane, Ms Robinson and Mrs Howard for a fabulous celebration yesterday.

Kiwi Team Picnic – This was held yesterday, these children were the first to use the pool and have some fun as a team.

Pukeko Team Picnic on Wednesday – There is an alternative wet day picnic plan in place.

Prizegiving Years 5-8 – This is on Thursday 15th December at 1:00pm, all are welcome to attend.

Reports – These go home on Thursday 15th December. The school will be open next Monday 19th December between 10am – 12noon for parents to collect reports if your child isn’t at school to collect them.

Farewell Assembly – This is on Friday 16th December at 9:30am and is for the whole school. We will farewell Miss Hunter and the children and families leaving.

School finishes 1:00pm Friday 16th December – Buses will leave at this time.

Lost Property – The tables have decreased BUT there is still two tables of clothing!! The clothing will be donated to charity on Thursday. Please think about labelling clothing for 2023.

Pool Opening – Pool access/(keys) for the holidays – Families can purchase a contract to access the pool in over summer. Contracts are $70.00 and ensure the pool is only used by designated families and well cared for.

Please come into the office to sign the contract to gain access to the pool.

Big thank you to parent Ben Meikle who will be the ‘Relief Pool Caretaker’ whilst Mr Bray is on summer leave. Ben will ensure the pool is clean and tested daily and keep the contracted users informed if the pool needs to close.

The pool opened this week, thank you Mr Bray for ensuring it is ready to go. Some classes will be able to swim depending on class programmes and the weather.

2023 Organisation – Teachers and support staff are in place for 2023. We are so fortunate to have a full staff and are not losing any other teachers for 2023. These are on the website https://wainui.school.nz/staff/.

Thursday 2nd February is our first day back, see you then.

There will be a powhiri to welcome new families on Friday 10th February at 9:15am followed by a morning tea/ kai.

FINALLY

Thank you Wainui School community for being supportive, caring and a great place to be for the children, families, staff and myself. We have achieved much together with strong productive partnerships by putting the children at the centre.

All the very best to those leaving us for new schools either in Auckland or in new towns around New Zealand, you are always welcome back to the Wainui Whanau.

I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and relaxing fun New Year wherever it may be!!

See you all in 2023.

Gillian Bray

The Wainui Worms Senior Touch Team, finished their season on a high, winning their first and final game – wahoo! They also scored the most tries they have scored all season and were dynamic on defence. Coached by the amazing Mr Cochrane this team has gone from strength to strength. Though they are playing in the Y7/8 grade, half the team is made up of Y5/6s, so this team has really been punching above their weight. All of the parents have been so impressed with how they have used their Wainui 5Rs each and every game…especially their resilience. We can’t wait to see how you go next year! Thank you to Mr Cochrane for coaching the team and to all of the parents for supporting your boys!
