FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

I must first start with a huge thank you!! To you all as parents!! But specifically to a couple of parents, I must say a really big thank you. Last week we had delivered to the school from a wonderful parent a tanker load of water!! Huge thank you to Dan and Paige, parents of Eve Robinson a new entrant. This was at just the right time as Mr. Lee and I were watching the water in the pool very closely, trying to fill it with water from the bottom tanks. So a huge Thank you!! We are so very lucky to have wonderful, helpful parents such as yourselves.

The second family I wish to shout out a huge thank you to is the family with Dizzy Heights tree cutting services!! Thank you for helping us (at a very nominal cost) get on top of the trees that have fallen in the bush.

Then a big shout out to all the parents helping with Garden to Table and helping us set up the bees. THANK YOU!!

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

The Bush and Playing – We have all been enjoying playing in the bush at lunchtime since late last year but we are revisiting how we show that we care for the bush while building tree huts and playing there.

Leadership – Our Year 8’s have begun their leadership journey. Each week I will feature one/ two or a group of leaders in the newsletter. See below under “Student Voice”.

Garden to Table – The first stall of the year was amazing!! Huge thank you to Mel Steen, Miss Stevenson, Sandy Tucker and all the students who put this together!! So much fresh produce from our gardens and the gardens of other members of our community!! Amazing packaging that would be right at home at Coatesville or Matakana Markets, well-done everyone.

The pleasure and buzz we hear and see on Fridays when everyone is gardening, cooking or involved in the PEEPs programme has been wonderful.

Keelan Latham and April Fletcher, two year 7 students brought me the most amazing plate of food to enjoy on Friday afternoon!! It consisted of a muffin, a corn fritter, fig jam, a pikelet with fig sauce, homemade crackers and school grown grapes.

Keelan and April with their amazing plate of goodies!!

The annual school Book Fair is coming up in week 8. We will be running the Book week from Tuesday 26th to Friday 29th March. The theme this year is the Enchanted Forest. It would be wonderful if your child could join in the Book week Parade on Friday 29th March dressed in an appropriate costume. We will also be having more fun activities during the week that children will participate in.

The Book Fair will be set up in the hall where will be many books available for purchase. The opening hours for the Fair are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning from 8am till 9am and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon from 3pm till 6pm. All books sold earn the school Scholastic points, these are converted to dollars. We are then able to purchase lovely new books for the school library.

Kia ora, Ko Maddie toku ingoa. I am one of your student councilors for 2019. Sport is very dear to my heart and this year I would like to reintroduce the Ski team. The dates for the ski competition are year 7/8: 26th to 29th of September, Year 1 to 6: 2nd to the 5th of October. The snowboarding dates are still to be confirmed as we need numbers for the competition to take place.
