Dear Parents / Caregivers,

We have been notified today that a small number of children have chicken pox – they are in one class in the Kiwi team.

Chickenpox is contagious from 1–2 days before the blisters appear. Avoid close contact with other people, stay home from work and keep children home from school and early childhood education centres for 1 week from the appearance of the rash until all blisters have dried.“

The issue brought to our attention is – what about siblings!!!

After referring to the Ministry Of Health guidelines and then speaking to a consultant at the Ministry Of Health – the rules are:

“There are no hard and fast rules if you haven’t got symptoms. It’s the parents decision as to whether they send any siblings to school if they are not showing any symptoms.”

Teachers will be vigilant as they already are, with hand washing and correct sneezing / coughing protocols.

Please be vigilant at home if any symptoms arise:

Chicken Pox Symptoms

People with chickenpox have small blisters (like a rash) on their skin. These can be very itchy.

Other symptoms of chickenpox are:

  • tiredness
  • fever
  • general aches and pains.
