Bike-a-thon
09/04/2019
Our first fundraiser for the year!! The Bike-a-thon will occur on Tuesday, 9 April, in the last week of school. In the a-thon you can bring your own bike or wheels and complete as many circuits of a course set by Mr. Irvine and the year 8’s as you can in a given time frame. The idea is to be sponsored by as many friends and family as you can.
We are holding the Bike-a-thon to raise funds to improve the outdoor environment for our children. It is also an opportunity to improve your child’s general fitness and ability on a bike. Please note, if you don’t have a bike you can use a school bike or bring a different form of wheels. The sponsorship forms for your child to collect their sponsors on have already been sent home, so if you have misplaced it please contact the office for another copy.
To prepare, the children can ride the school bikes during break times. If possible, the children should ride after school and during the weekends in order to be well prepared for an excellent Bike-a-thon effort.
At this stage your friendly Friends of Wainui School team are looking for prizes and/or sponsors for the event. If you think you can help please contact Denise at [email protected] or on 021 562 077. We have a few great prizes lined up already from Snowplant, Bike Barn, Pak’n’Save, SUP Shed and with more to come. Any further support, leads or ideas would be appreciated.
On the day the FOWS team will be selling sausages, ice creams, drinks, coffee, hot chocolates, ice creams and easter themed cupcakes. We are always looking for helpers on the day to help with selling these items. We are also looking for 6 or more baking superstars to bake the cupcakes to sell on the day. If you are able to make 25- 50 cupcakes, please let either Denise or Mel in the office know.
On completion of the Bike-a-thon, your child can record the number of laps they completed, on the sponsorship form, and begin collecting their money. All money and pledge forms must be returned to school by Friday, 3 May to be in for a chance of a prize. Prizegiving will be held on Friday, 17 May, which is the same day as Pink Shirt Day.
All children who participate in the Bike-a-thon will also receive 50 points for their house, plus 1 point for each lap they complete. All points will be added and the winning house will earn for themselves a reward!
Thank you so much for your support. We look forward to a great response!
