FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

I hope you all enjoyed a long weekend celebrating Matariki with family and friends. Even though our COVID-19 numbers are now just 1% we have all certainly noticed and felt the effects of bad flu/colds/cough and stomach viruses!! It is affecting us all, from staff to families not just at Wainui School but at all schools across the country. Take care everyone.

News focus:

  • MasterChef
  • Board Elections
  • Friends of Wainui School Quiz Night Update
  • Ag Day and Country Fair Update
  • End of term Assembly

THIS WEEK

  • MasterChef – Congratulations to all semi finalists!! You are all ready to compete this week making a wrap if you are in year 1&2, scrambled eggs if you are a year 3&4 and omelettes in years 5-8. Well done to the Ashton Becker-Crawford year 8 Student Councillor and his team of organisers! You have done an amazing job so far ensuring the contestants can compete in a fun situation. Who will become our Wainui MasterChef for 2022?!!
  • Board Elections – I do hope some of you are considering standing for the Wainui School Board? Please do consider this rewarding opportunity, it is a wonderful way of understanding how a school works and contributing to our wonderful school community. We have been very lucky over the last years always having strong, committed, and positive Board members. The Board has 5 members, a staff representative, and myself. As the principal I am the only person who is there by nature of the position.  Please do contact me if you would like a chat about what a Board member does, no question is too small.

There is an upcoming Korari Online Q and A session. This webinar is designed to provide
members of the public with an opportunity to find out more about what it means to be a school
board member and to answer any questions that they may have about the election process and
board member role. During the session they will have the opportunity to direct questions to a panel
of experienced school board members and NZSTA advisors. This session is open to anyone with
an interest in school governance.

  • Ag Day and Country Fair – Friday 21st October 2022 Update #2

If you are interested in entering a lamb, kid goat or calf  for Ag Day this year, you may procure your animals born from this Friday (1st July) until 15th September!!

The school holidays provide an excellent opportunity for the children to bond with their animals – spending time feeding, loving and caring for their new friend!!

Come along to next Friday’s assembly, where Nikki Browne will be bringing along her “kids”!!! There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions about rearing and showing an animal.

We are ordering the day old Brown Shaver chicks again to. The chicks will be delivered to school on Tuesday 30th August. Orders to: [email protected]  Chicks are $10.00 each.

The supplier for our chicks also stock heat lamps, chick drinkers and chick feeders etc, and parents can opt to have this added on to their chick orders and it will arrive with the chicks. Let Mel Ludwig in the office ([email protected]) know if you want any more information about this but the supplier does stock the Shoof NZ products and the German quality brand Trixie for heat lamps.

If you need to book leave or let the grandparents know please do so now as this is our biggest day of the year!! We understand it is hard to take time off work but if you can please do. We have our animals being judged, our classes decorated with all the arts and crafts and food, stalls and games. It is a wonderful day that celebrates some traditions and always some new things!!

End of Term Assembly Friday 8th July – Come and join us to celebrate the value of Resilience, to celebrate with the Kiwi Team, it is their turn to perform and to see who receives the Hellyer cups, and hear a bit more about Ag Day.

Following the assembly we have a very special afternoon tea to farewell our staff member Shelley Ross. Thank you for the RSVP’s, please be aware there is no formal supervision provided for children as this is an adult farewell which is outside of school hours.
