WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

Disco- We had an amazing turn out for the first disco of 2024! Congratulations to Leslie Ann Linn the chairperson of the FOWS, as this was a new “community” run Disco with a great collaboration of the FOWS, some Board Members, additional parent helpers and only a few of us teachers running the Disco. It was awesome to hear the student’s feedback on Monday,  the mood was whole heartedly positive they almost all loved it!  A huge thanks goes out to Matt Jones (Dad to Phoenix and Skylah!) who stepped in as our DJ & MC for the evening. The verdict is in and “you are super cool Matt!” great work- great music – lots of fun! Thank you to everyone who helped out on the evening, there were so many parents around & it was great to see you all supporting!

The Disco was to raise funds to go towards the new House T-shirts!!!

House T-shirts – These are available now at a well reduced cost after funds raised from the Disco. The idea is to revive our house culture, wear our colours and develop the whanau grouping that occurs when we have activities in our houses! These are now available to order in the office for $10.00. Payments are on Kindo.

Last Week’s Kiwi Team Assembly – A great start to the term was kicked off with a wonderful Mother’s Day Assembly lead by by our Junior Team. Their performances had every Mum in the audience smiling (and Dad too)! The Hellyer Cup was awarded to 5 outstanding students who have demonstrated their dedication to learning and upholding the values of Wainui School. We are proud of you, this is a very coveted prize to win!!

A special congratulations to Year 2 Dante Broederlow who came runner up in the Australia Junior Gold Championship. Dante shared his new trophy and favourite golf club with us all!

THIS WEEK

School PhotosTomorrow Wednesday 15th May.

You do not order/ pay for your child’s portraits until AFTER PHOTO DAY.

Siblings with preschoolers joining in photos will take place in the morning before school, starting at 8:15am.

You will receive an order form featuring a photo of your child after Photo Day.

Pink Shirt Day – Friday May 17th wear pink! Stand up, Speak out, and Stop Bullying!! This is the catch phrase and we mean it. Sometimes some of us have to be reminded to be kind, be less judgemental, be respectful and use E Tu Tangata – at Wainui School we all want to! Join us wearing your pink!!

The Student Councillors have a parade organised and will be selling pink cup cakes and hot chocolate (3$ combo) for morning tea – plus collecting a gold coin to support our own Pink Shirt projects!!

Bunnings Buddy Bench – Silverdale Bunnings has generously donated us a Buddy Bench. We welcome the team from Bunnings who will build us a bench with a group of year 7&8’s. Thank you – we can’t wait to see it and use it!

Winter Sports Teams – Teams are practicing and now playing!! Thank you to every coach and manager for all your hard work and commitment. We have 7 Netball teams, 6 Field Hockey teams, Basketball teams, and Flippa Ball Teams.

Thank you Mr Bray the new basketball hoop and back board are going up this week. Thank you Melissa Mexted new netball goals are on their way for practice. Thank you Sue Johnson cleaning up the courts, an endless task with all our vegetation around the school.

COMING UP

Cultural Diversity Week – Student Councillors Phoenix Sweetman Jones, Isabella Lehmann and, Ayla Lodge will be heading up this event. We are celebrating for a whole week- not just one day as we have in the past. We have lots organised! We ask you to start thinking about a shared dish you may bring for the shared lunch at the end of the week. Something that represents your families culture or tradition!

FINALLY

Health and Safety – We are always working to ensure our school is looking good, safe for our kids and a healthy place to be! If there is anything that you notice, Mr Bray, myself or the office ladies need to action, please do let us know. We have big grounds to cover and we are an older school with some interesting elements to manage that other schools don’t!! So please report to us via email or text if there is something we need to action. You will be pleased to know after the unexpected frosts of last week we have ordered some better signage to warn you!!

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray
