FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Haere Mai, Welcome back to 2018!!

This is a very short week as you will be aware, so a “short” little newsletter to set the scene and begin 2018!! It goes without saying a very hot start to 2018!! Even with yesterday’s rain and the slightly cooler temperatures the spirits of the children, the excitement in the morning as parents and children arrived at school was wonderful to see and feel.

The eager faces, hear the stories of holidays and fun with friends and family. We have welcomed 27 new children to our school.

Next Friday 9 February we have planned a special Powhiri for the new families to be welcomed to Wainui School at 9.15am. This will be followed by a special morning tea for all the new families.

Now it is time for routine to return as school begins. This week is all about routines and expectations and reminders of how we can all live and learn together at Wainui School. More detail in this area will be in next week’s newsletter. But above all please remember the teachers, management team and support staff are all here to help your children!! Please come and meet the teacher, meet us all and do not be shy to ask if there is something you want to know.

The Teachers:

Teachers 2018 – This was us at Teacher Only Day on Wednesday preparing for the year to begin. On Tuesday we all attended a Community of Learning (CoL) Mini Conference at Orewa with over 200 teachers from the Orewa Schools CoL. This day was inspiring for us all with global, national and local trends presented, discussed and workshops were attended.

We are very fortunate as we do have a full complement of teachers for all our classes, unlike many schools as reported in the media. Some teachers have had a change in role, year level or responsibility. This is very usual in all schools as teachers themselves want career advancement or change!

We are delighted to welcome back Mrs Chanel Hertzke to the junior school. Mrs Hertzke began her teaching career with us in 2016 then travelled, returned for a short teaching stint at Orewa North and is now returning to Wainui School.
