FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Kia ora Koutou,
I hope you all enjoyed the extra long weekend after what can only be described as probably one of our best ever Ag Day and Country Fairs!! Massive thank you goes to Leslie Ann Linn and the PTA team for the setup, the day and the pack up!! You were all phenomenal and enabled everything to happen!! To Kylie Allen a massive thank you fo
r your leadership with the animals, the judging and leading us all as teachers!! For every single person who did help it e
nables us to have this amazing day!! The sun was shining on us all as we watched the animals being judged, as we were able to
buy the treats and browse the amazing market stalls. Thank you to Olivia Huszak for organising the return of the market!!
Thank you to Matt Jones and Phoenix Sweetman-Jones, you sang and entertained us all day with great music adding to the atmosphere.Thank you to the teachers for the classrooms full of amazing arts and crafts the children have created over the last term.
Lastly thank you to our key sponsors: Hutchinson’s, Baxter Engineering, and Harcourts Cooper & Co – Simone du Bernard, with your sponsorship means we can make a profit and have everything we did!!
Teacher Only Day – We are preparing to implement the refreshed curriculum in Literacy and Numeracy!! All the teachers are ready to go in 2025. We have spent time exploring the changes and the expectations and are on the way with the changes the Government has introduced. The “science of learning, reading, writing and maths” are all being explored and much will be applied to our teaching in the future. We will need time to make the changes but there is a “growth mindset” and positive attitude from the teachers. We will certainly be sharing this with you all in 2025, together the changes that occur.
2025 Staffing and Classes – The classes are being put together now and teachers matched with these. In line with the curriculum changes we have made some changes to our organisation of classes.
There will be three teams in line with the new curriculum learning phases;
- Pukeko Team years 1-3 – PHASE ONE of the Curriculum. Team Leader Kylie Allen (New Entrant teacher).
- Tui Team years 4-6 – PHASE TWO of the Curriculum. Team Leader Luke Cochrane (Year 6 teacher).
- Takahe Team years 7-8 – PHASE THREE of the Curriculum. Team Leader Nick Wotton (Year 8 teacher), Lauren Jenkins (Year 7 Teacher) with Leanne Stevenson one day per week.
Most classes will be straight Year levels (except where numbers do not permit). Almost all classes have teachers assigned, we will share this in the next few weeks once final placements are made.
Please inform us if you are leaving at the end of 2024 via email to [email protected] to enable us to put together the classes over the next few weeks. Thank you!!

FINALLY
The final word is from Kylie Allen.
Ag Day – Friday 25 October 2024 A big thank you! Wow, what an awesome day we had on Friday.
Animal Handlers – Your animals were just beautiful. You could see the care and time you all put into your calves, lambs, goats and chickens. The judges had a hard time picking the most obvious pet! This is one of the most important ribbons to get as this is the one that shows the most child effort and love and care you have for your animal. A huge CONGRATULATIONS to you all.
South Kaipara Schools Group Day – Children with lambs, goats and calves who received 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place ribbons at Ag Day are eligible to represent Wainui School at the South Kaipara Schools Group Day which is held at Helensville Showgrounds, this Friday 1st November 2024. There are 13 students attending with their animals, we wish them good luck!
Leslie Ann and PTA Committee Members – THANK YOU for all your hard work in getting the food stalls, market stalls, raffles, games, petting zoo, and ponies organised. I can say from everyone here at Wainui School from the staff, the children and the visitors that we ALL had an amazing day! There are so many things happening in the background to make this day run smoothly and for all of us to enjoy.
Wainui School Community – THANK you for supporting Ag Day, for supplying the resources for classroom exhibits and volunteering on the day. We cannot run this day without volunteers.
Wainui Children – Your classroom exhibits were amazing. The judges had a difficult time awarding certificates in each category! And thank you for welcoming our visitors, your respectful manners in the animal rings and at the games. Wainui School children are the BEST!
