FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Kia ora Koutou,
The Auckland Santa Parade has been, the shops are stocking Christmas goodies and we are practicing our Christmas songs for Christmas in the Country!!! The countdown is on!! Christmas in the Country is held on Thursday 12th December, it will be once again down on the field but will face the hall in order for the students to perform on the concrete and for us to be nearer to the power source and the internet. Last year was very challenging getting our equipment to work on the other side of the field!! There will be an Enterprise Christmas Market run by the year 7&8’s, a BBQ selling sausages and the Coffee and Cone Van run by Harcourts Cooper & Co will be here. Your family can bring their own picnic or buy from the stalls. Earlier in the year a lovely father offered to help with the sound and technical side, I would love it if that father could make contact again, we would love a bit of expertise to make the event even better in terms of sound.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING
Athletics – Last week we held both the year 5-8 Athletics and the year 3&4 Athletics. Both days were so successful, the sun shone and almost all our students were engaged in the events of high jump, long jump, discuss, shotput throwing and running. The sun was shining, a great atmosphere was at both events. The actual InterSchool event for the year 5&6’s is not until term 1 next year now for the Hibiscus Coast. This is newly changed so we will re visit athletics in the new year whilst we get used to the new timing. Thank you to the teachers and team leaders Mr Cochrane and Mrs Richards especially for organising this event.
Board By-Election – Is now in process, please vote, we are so fortunate to have 8 candidates standing for our Board, everyone has great skills to offer our school. There is a Ballot Box in the office for you to drop your voting paper into. Votes must be delivered before 4pm on 16th December 2024. If posting, please send as early as possible as it must be received by the Returning Officer no later than 5 days after the date of the election.
THIS WEEK
MasterChef – The hotly anticipated and long awaited MasterChef competition is being held this Friday, 29th November. Hamish Fincham our year 8 student Councillor in charge has patiently organised and reorganised this competition to fit into our busy schedule. All information has been distributed, we can’t wait to sample your creations!!
Principal for the Day – Emma and Aimee Clough are to carry out the duties and the fun of being the Principal for the Day this coming Friday, 29th November!! They have lots of fun in store for many of us, and will be very busy at this week’s Assembly handing out the certificates. I will be enjoying a rest from the busyness of the job!!! Thank you to mum and dad for winning this prize and investing in our school at the last Quiz Night!!!
Helpers Morning Tea and End of Year Music Concert – This is on tomorrow, Wednesday 27th November. Please come join us and celebrate the year, we can’t do it without the help of you as parents/ grandparents or friends of the school!! The Helpers Morning Tea is at 10:10am. Before that we will have the end of year Music Concert at 9:15am, we have two itinerant music teachers Ross Hutchison and Maria O’Flaherty who teach music each week. Their students will perform first plus our kapa haka group will also perform.
Farewell to Mr. Richard Bray our Caretaker for the last 4 years – He is ready to move on, retire and enjoy his next years. I thank him personally for filling in from what was meant to be 3 months to quite a bit longer!! (This was my request!!) His work has been very much appreciated, his background of farming, policing, compliance and law enforcement with DOC for many years to being COO of Coastguard New Zealand sees him bring many skills an experiences to our school. Richard hands on the role to Ben Meikle who will then be full time. A great transition for the future of the school.
NEXT WEEK
Prizegiving – Start time 1pm on Friday 6th December – This is one of the few traditional events we keep, whereby we do recognise excellence in all areas of school life. It is never easy making the final choice of person to present the awards to, I will say every year I struggle to award the Principal’s Cup as there are so many wonderful students at our school. The event is during the day to ensure all children can be present and we celebrate together. I am hoping to arrange live streaming of this event for parents/ caregivers/ family to connect from work or home if they cannot make it in person.
FINALLY
Please pick up your clothes, hats and shoes from the Lost Property – after getting rid of a huge pile we have another big pile left!!! The end of year clean up and organisation is beginning!!
Ka kite ano,
Gillian Bray
