FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

Haere Mai, welcome back to Term Three, 2018.

Wainui School has grown so much we are now on a roll of 300 children!! This is quite a milestone for our school and means we have challenges of roll growth. However, we continue to work closely with the Ministry of Education to ensure we can grow and provide the best facilities, teaching and support staff we can as a Board of Trustees!! I am very proud to say we can and do, do all this, very effectively.

This next six months see us planning for a new block of classrooms to be built on the school grounds for roll growth. We have also just been awarded an increase in funding to directly improve the learning environments over the next 5 years. It will never be enough to do everything but we are very pleased to be able to do as much as we can.

We have some changes to staffing to start the term, but the good news for us is, in this time whereby it is getting harder to find enough teachers in New Zealand, we have a full complement of teachers and teacher aides to support all our children’s learning.

We welcome back Miss Caroline Revell, to the team teaching position in Pukatea class with Mrs Richards. Miss Revell has been on Maternity leave to have her beautiful boy Finn.

On leave will be support staff: Melanie Bashford Leave until Wednesday 15th August. Sandy Tucker leave until Tuesday 31st July. Tanya Glover sick leave until Monday 30th July. All of these positions are covered with relief support staff/ current support staff.

Mr Eysink has resigned from his position, this occurred in the school holidays. We are currently working on a replacement caretaker.

Welcome to New Families – Taylah Hadley, Jack Stephenson, Freedym and Tyson Stirling and Ewi Delamere from Waitoki. We will welcome these new families at the next full assembly.

THIS WEEK

Court Resurfacing – The courts are being resurfaced over the next week. This will mean they are closed until the job is complete. Please use other areas in the school for practices but make sure you have checked with us if the area is free for use. We have so many teams the practice areas are at a premium.

Science Road Show – Year 7&8 are attending the Science Road Show on Wednesday 25th July.

Japanese students from Hatsushiba Ritsumeikan – This Wednesday 25th July at 3.15pm in the staffroom we are having a meeting for all host families. We will have Saori (Japanese Liaison) and Louise (World Class) there so you can ask any questions you may have about hosting.

Our students will arrive next week. This is always an exciting time for us as our school gains 24 junior high students (12-13 year olds) who have come for 10 days to experience “kiwi culture” in a home stay setting, improve and practice their English in the school setting and have some fun with us all. Thank you to Miss Ludwig who has done a tremendous job of finding home stays for all the students, thank you to all the families who are billeting a student. The students will experience some independent English lessons in their own classes.
