FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Kia ora Koutou,
Thank you to all who turned out on Sunday morning to the “WORKING BEE”. What a difference a small, but impressive group can make in a morning!! Mr Lee and I are so amazed and thankful for the wonderful work!! Our school is well ready for Ag Day and the Country Fair on Friday.
A HUGE thank you to Dion Mayes and family with their team of workers from Dizzy Heights Tree Services!! What an amazing gift to the school from this family, bringing a team of workers to trim lots of fallen trees in the bush and spreading mulch around much of the school grounds.
Thank you to all these families – Ledger family, Elliott family, Allen Family, Prestige Family, Hewitt family, Adlam family, Atkinson family, Kate Stevens and Lesley Ann Linn, along with Mrs Blackburn, Mrs De Cort, Mrs Morris, Mr Lee and myself. We mulched, weeded, trimmed trees, swept, improved the chicken coop and house, painted the playhouse, improved the sandpit, cleared gutters, regravelled pathways and continued to plan for bees. We also enjoyed an impressive morning tea from Kay and Lesley Ann!! We will continue this tradition next year of the Working Bee to make these differences!!
THIS WEEK
Ag Day and Country Fair!! – Is nearly here. We are all this week finishing off the arts and crafts to display in our classrooms. You will be at home preparing your animal, chicken or pet egg to show. The day is the best day of the year to come to school as a grand parent or parent. It is a fun day with stalls, games, food and traditional animal showing fun! I hope you can all make it. Thank you to everyone who has donated goods and funds for this day!!
If you can’t come on Friday, come and help on Thursday!! Nikki Brown and lots of the Teacher Aides, with the students will all be setting the grounds and rooms ups.
Cake Box – This weeks donation is baked goods. A cake box will be coming home today with your child, one per family in the hope that you will fill it with delicious baked goods to be sold at our Cake Stall on Ag Day.
This year we’re trying something a little different, to try and get a bit more variety across our Cake Stall. If your child is in the Junior part of the school (Years 0-4) we ask that you preferably fill the box with a slice or cupcakes. If your child is in the Senior part of the school (Years 5-8) we ask that you preferably fill the box with a whole cake, however any goodies are gratefully accepted! If you have multiple children in different parts of the school, just fill the box with whatever works best for you! We ask that the filled cake boxes are returned to the school on Friday morning and are taken directly to the Cake Stall under the hall.
EFTPOS – A reminder that there will be eftpos available on the day, where you can purchase tickets, but no cash out will be given out. We do however recommend that you also bring some cash to purchase items from the market stalls (though some of these vendors will have their own eftpos machines).
No Dogs – As we will have lambs, kids and chickens at this event, we ask that you do not bring your dog.
Donations – If you haven’t had a chance to get your weekly donation up to the school, the office is still taking these donations.
Volunteers – We are also still looking for volunteers to man stalls, so please email [email protected] if you can help.
Weather – This event will be going ahead on Friday no matter what the weather – there is no save date so please all cross your fingers for fine weather!
Lastly a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has already donated, volunteered or helped out to make our Ag Day an amazing day for all of our children! It is one of the best days of the year.
WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING
FOWS Meeting last week – What an amazing group of parents!! Our school would not have so much happening if we did not have the support of this group. They still desperately need a few more helpers on Ag Day. Please think about supporting with your time, it could just be an hour (let the teacher of your class know or email the office). The next meeting is on Wednesday 6th November so come and meet some of the amazing parents.
The Great New Zealand Shakeout – Matt Cator, Jakob Kerr, Gabby Minton all led us in this practice of Earthquake drills!!
We particpated with the rest of New Zealand in the Great Shake Out. I am pleased to say we were able to particpate in a procedure and then evacuate once deemed safe, in just over 7 minutes.
Team Newsletters – These should all have been sent out by email last Friday. These will also no longer be given out as a hard copy, but if you have difficulty receiving this please let us know. The team programmes are all outlined here and will help you know what your child is learning, practicing and doing.
Tahi, Rua, Toru Tech Challenge – Regional finals is held this Tuesday – Carter Wright, Rosie Gulik, Oscar Price and Milly Dixon are the representatives in Year 3 & 4 to attend with Mrs Taylor. We loook foward to hearing all about the challenges and what they entail.
School House – This is being painted this week by TradeLine Painters. At some stage they will need to block off part of the top carpark to spray paint we will certainly warn everyone about this and take all necessary precautions.
NEXT WEEK
Camp Motutapu – Year 7 & 8″s, Mr Irvine, Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Taylor are all off to the island for the week!! We wish them a wonderful time, the activities are challenging, fun and cover a range of skills, from ropes, climbing, abseiling to challenges and of course fun with frriends . We wish you all a fun week and great weather!!

FINALLY
The Driveway and Carpark – By the time you read this all of the modifications and improvements to the carpark and driveway will be complete. This project is fully funded and project managed by the Ministry, although we do have influence as to much of the design. Thank you to everyone for your patience. We will be working with the new markings for the buses to park. Please go around the roundabout to access the parking as it is much safer. We are thrilled as a BOT with our parking, the improved surface and better access around the roundabout.
Ka kite ano,
Gillian Bray
