Tripp Glasgow Principal for the day!!

Monday began with Tripp and Milla Glasgow standing in for me as the Principal!! Here is Tripp off to check on his teachers with a tin full of treats as a reward!! Well done both of you for starting the week off in such a fun way!!

Have you seen the pile of lost property?  Please check your child’s wardrobe and come and claim your clothes, shoes, boots, hats, water bottles etc!!

The concert was led by Jackie Clarke and Nathan King, two kiwi music professionals who certainly know how to get the best out of the children and entertain us all with a great line up of songs. Celeste Hamilton-Dowling was a soloist she had an outstanding performance.

Kapa Haka Te Rupu

Last Friday was a very special and inspiring day!! The Senior Kapa Haka performed, led by Matt Cator, Ty Browne Hale and Gabby Minton, Senior Year 8 Leaders. Then the Junior Kapa Haka group was launched!! This was the dream and inspiration of Ty and continues the journey of our Kapa Haka. Over 45 parents and friends attended and many then joined in the staffroom for a cup of tea and a “korero” on some of our goals in the area of Te Reo Maori, Tikanga Maori, and Kapa Haka.  Thank you to everyone who stayed, contributed or just listened. It was wonderful to have so many in attendance for consultation.  All opinions are welcome enabling us as a BOT and staff to keep the journey for Wainui School moving on.

If you missed this you are always welcome to come and chat to myself or pop in and see the Kapa Haka group on a Tuesday morning at 10.00am in the hall.

Sing, watch your children dance, and have a picnic!!

For sale are: Hot Pork rolls, (but get in quick as these sell out fast). Bowls of choc-dipped strawberries and brownie, bacon sandwiches, sausage sizzle, sweet treats and more! There is going to be another can challenge, so entry is by donation of a can. There will also be raffles and  a very special visitor is taking time out from their busy schedule to visit us.

This Wednesday I have been invited to a meeting in West Auckland with Minister Chris Hipkins. It is with a group of other principals, I will be interested to hear first hand about the changes that are going to affect us at Wainui School with the Review of the Education system now complete and ready to move forward. I have many questions and will report back next week especially on what will affect us and our children.

FINALLY

Once again I am blown away with the generosity of our families!! Huge thank you to the Marshall Family who will be donating to us eight bee suits for our bee keeping, gloves, honey scrapers and various other tools that we do not have for our Bee group. Wow this is just wonderful. I am so excited as there is even a bee suit for an adult that I will be able to use and learn with the group!! THANK YOU!! It is wonderful to think we don’t have to raise funds to participate – now we need a small shed to keep it all in!!

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray
