FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Kia ora koutou,
Last week of 2019!! Always hard to believe but we are almost there!!
Today we have celebrated achievement, effort, attitudes and skill at the annual prizegiving!! By the time you read this the awards will have been presented – congratulations go from me to everyone, not just these winners but to everyone as together we have had a fantastic year!!
Enjoy the last few days together, pick up the last of the lost property (it is all hanging on the fence) Have fun and celebrate!!
WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING
Final Music Performance – Last Wedneday we had a wonderful end of year music performance!! All of our itinerant music teachers, Maria O’Flaherty and Ross Hutchison and pupils, performed together with our 3 classes that have been learning the djembe drums. The Kids for Kids choir also shared their practiced pieces. What a fabulous morning we had being entertained by all these musicians and singers. Music is integral and a very important part of our life at Wainui School. If you wish your child to have lessons or even have a musical talent to share please let us know.
Junior Athletics – The Junior school were able to complete their athletics day last Friday with the better weather. Congratulations Mrs Hill, what a great day for all the juniors and middle school. There will be a special prize giving on Wednesday 18th December at 2.00pm. Please feel free to join Pukeko and Kiwi team to celebrate their achievements.
Pukeko Beach Day – Despite the downpour and thunder, the Pukeko team were able to have some fun and celebrate the end of year at Orewa Beach. Thank you to all the parents who attended and the team teachers for your organisation.
THIS WEEK
Pool Keys – Are for sale from the office for the summer. These are $80.00 and with your pool key there is a pool agreement to be signed. On return of the pool key at the end of Term 1, 2020 a $10.00 bond will be returned to you. Mr Lee, the caretaker will be on holiday from the 24th through to the 31st of December. He will also be away from the 3rd, 13th, 14th, 16th, 17th, 20th, 21st, 23rd and 24th January 2020. In order for the pool to be kept open we will need a family to volunteer to test the pool each day and keep it clean. This is not a hard job but needs someone who is willing to keep it going if the pool is to be kept open. The pool must be tested daily. Please let us know if you can do this, a pool key will be given to you, if you can as compensation.
COMING UP
Last Day – Thursday 19th December – 1.00pm Finish – We will farewell this year two teachers.
Mr Mahler from Totara class. Mr Mahler stepped in as teacher when Miss Taylor left to travel. Mr Mahler is planning to return overseas and continue his teaching career overseas.
Mrs Morris will be leaving us to take up a new postion in West Auckland as a “Learning Support Coordinator” These are new postions that some schools have secured, in the latest changes from the Government . Unfortunately, Wainui School and all the schools in this area have not received these positions. We wish Mrs Morris all the very best. Mrs Morris has been with us for the last 7 years and we thank her for everything she has contributed to Wainui School over this time.
2020 Information
First day of school is Tuesday 4th February 2020.
Classes and teachers – There will be a number of changes for 2020 and we can now inform you of. This is usual for any school as teachers leave or take leave for a period of time. Your child will be informed of their class and teacher for 2020 in their school report which will be sent home on Wednesday. We are fortunate to have secured new teachers who are passionate about joining us.
All children will visit their new classes and teacher or teachers. Some teachers will not be with us however until next year as they are still completing their year.
Some physical spaces will be different as we have classes being renovated and the Year 2’s are all moving to the Puriri classroom and the New Entrants and Year 1’s are relocating to different classes.
I have created a table of the classes and spaces for the beginning of 2020. Please note Rimu and Matai classes (Year 5 & 6) spaces are both being modernised to be of the standard they should be for 2020 in the holidays.
