FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Haere Mai a warm welcome back to you all!!
We made it to Level 2.5 enabling us all to return to school and a somewhat sense of normality. The smiles and happy faces that arrived at school on Monday morning were just delightful!! We were all happy to be back together again, children, teachers and support staff.

There were even sports teams practising before school. This was great to see, please remember not to drop and leave children if there is no one there. teachers do not need to arrive until 8:15. I cannot guarantee there will be anyone here earlier even though some times they are.
Congratulations to all parents for your drop off and pick up!! Wow, this went so well both in the morning and after school. Thank you, everyone, it was a great start, it will be trickier in the rain, but if we can all bring raincoats it will be ok.
For those who have chosen to stay home a bit longer, please ensure the teacher is informed and we can provide some work for you. Tonight the Minister of Education once again reiterated that it is safe to return to school and encouraged everyone to do this. Please be assured we have an excellent routine for everyone to wash their hands, use hand sanitiser very regularly, and lots of spays and wipe for more regular cleaning of the tables and surfaces.
THIS WEEK
Monday afternoon began with the water pump dying on us!! Not what we wanted, but it was soon fixed and rest assured there is water flowing again. Routines all began and we are back into everything that happens on-site. This includes the Dance and Art Therapy Class, Thinking Caps and Thrive On, Kapa haka and the Mau Rakau group with Whaea Leanne and Bee group with Myself and Kyle Atkinson on Tuesday, Music lessons with Ross or Maria, and Garden to Table. After school, we have on Mondays Kelly Sports and Skids have begun their after school care.
Wai Factor Semi finals – Wednesday 2nd September in the two breaks for the Years 5 – 8 students.
Congratulations to all the students who participated before the lockdown in the auditions. Drew, Tara, and Teah, the Student Leaders are keenly organising the semi-finals for you all to participate in. We are all looking forward to hearing you all perform again this week.

Welcome “Skids” (Emilio and his team of supervisors) to Wainui School!! This is a great service now on site, the children do not have to get in a van and go to Waitoki School anymore. You can book in as a casual or for a more long term standing arrangement. The programme is based in the hall, but do run a variety of activities using the outdoors and inside.
Assemblies on Friday – This week we will have a short team assembly for each team whilst we are in Level 2.5. You may attend the assembly, but please ensure you sign-in on the visitor register. The times are – Pukeko – 9.10 am, Kiwi – 9.45 am, Tui – 10.10 am and Takahe – 10.40 am.
Change of Dates or Cancellations – Sadly the fall out of COVID-19 is more events have been cancelled due to the restrictions of large gatherings. This term means the Interschool Cross Country and the Hockey competitions are all cancelled and the Year 7 & 8 trip to MOTAT. One day we will return to being able to compete and join larger groups, but for now “it is what it is”. We are all so thankful we had our own Cross Country and had such a great day.
Today is the first day of Spring – September is the month of bees and each week our bee team will share in the newsletter some information about bees and beekeeping!! Next week we are fortunate to have Grass Esposti, a bee expert and enthusiast running a series of lessons over the next three weeks in September around bees and beekeeping.

FINALLY
Lost / Left Behind Clothing – Over Level 3 I washed and dried all the clothes left behind. There is a huge pile in the office, plus even after the first day another small pile of clothes, mainly children over the age of 8 years old!! To help improve the pickup and return of clothing, please write your child’s name on the label or somewhere we can find to identify who belongs to what. If your wardrobes and drawers seem to have less in them, maybe it is at school. It will all be given to a charity at the end of the term if not claimed!!

Orders and payment are made done online via Kindo.
We will be placing our only order at the end of Term 3 – so ensure your order is made via Kindo by Friday 18th September. Items will be distributed in the first few weeks of Term 4 (depends on how quickly the printing company process our order).
The Yummy Sticker competition is back for 2020!! We have got sticker sheets in all the classrooms now, so save up and bring them in. We will enter all the sheets into the yummy sticker company and we will hopefully win a lot of sports gear. Thanks from your organisers Miss Ross & Mia Thomson, Year 8.
Calves for Ag Day – If any school families are still looking for a calf to raise we have plenty available. Surplus Murray Grey, Angus, Jersey and Friesian X Bull and Heifer feeder calves from small organic family farm near Wainui. From 4 days to 5 weeks old. From $50.00 to $150.00 depending on age, breed and sex. Raised naturally on cows from our closed herd. Herd TB status is C10 with latest test 06/01/2020. All NAIT registered and tagged.

Orewa Beach Holiday Surf Programme – We’re running our popular Orewa Holiday Surf Programme over the upcoming school holidays. The surf programme aims to teach not only the fundamentals of how to surf but how to enjoy the water in a safe manner, teaching water safety, surf etiquette and hazard awareness. In addition we have heaps of fun playing some beach games making loads of new friends! We are also taking bookings for our Surfing Education in Term 4 & 1.
