FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

After a very wet and grey long weekend, at least my garden is growing and the tanks are full, as we return to week 2.  We wish all our family members and friends in Years 11, 12 and 13 and their teachers all the very best as they return to school this week. We will continue with our distance learning and some of us at school. Please remember it is a balancing act providing online programmes and meeting the needs all day at school.  All children at school continue to be a part of the classes’ online lessons, sometimes it is difficult, as I know you find at home getting everyone connected using the wifi. Thank you everyone at home for your efforts as we continue to provide a programme of learning for every single student.  Please contact the teacher if you need help, some advice or more resources.

Items of discussion this week are:

  • Ag Day follow up
  • FOWS – Whittakers Chocolate Fundraiser Drive
  • Bees – SJA Honey continue to manage our Bees
  • Calendar and dates /events /sports

Ag Day Follow Up – An amazing effort was made by so many of you to complete some activities that recognised our special day. Mr Irvine has put these together in an online folder which will be shared with you all in the near future!! Well done to everyone!!

FOWS – Whittakers Chocolate Fundraiser Drive – This week we want to recoup the funds or the chocolate to enable us to cover the costs. Please, please if you didn’t read the message last week I have copied and pasted the same message from the FOWS below:

Our Chocolate fundraiser must come to an end – Final call for funds or more chocolate to sell, Nov 1st is our deadline!

Wow, what a crazy few weeks, we hope everyone is doing ok. Our fundraising started with a bang and ended with a boom-lockdown… Thank you for everyone’s support and to those who have already paid for their box(es).  If you have cash and/or chocolates that you can’t or no longer want to sell we ask that you drop these off at school during school hours.  Just pull up at the gates and call the office (09) 420 5127 or school mobile 027 525 1848, and one of our wonderful staff members will come down to you to collect. Please remember no one is allowed on school grounds outside of the bubble of students and teachers so please stay in your car.  Please ensure your child’s name is on any money being returned so we can mark them off. If you want more chocolates to sell, please follow the same process above before Wed Oct 27th.

If getting to school is a challenge to drop off cash and/or chocolates, please email FOWS on fows@wainui.school.nz and we will organise alternative options with you (we may be able to come past an agreed contactless meeting place). Don’t forget you can still pay for full boxes sold ($72) on Kindo.

All money and chocolates will need to be returned to school by Monday, November 1st.

At Wainui School, we rely on fundraising events to support our children’s education. As some of our biggest events got cancelled this year, we would greatly appreciate one last blast to help raise money for our school.  If you have any questions please email us and we will be in touch. Stay safe and well everyone. Friends of Wainui School (FOWS)

Bees – SJA Honey continues to manage our Bees – A massive thank you to Jenna and Jason Marshall for keeping the Bees going at school.  This is an exciting partnership with SJA honey and we will have honey this summer as we have some amazingly healthy hives. I was lucky enough with Ziv, a year 7 student on-site to check the Bees. Bee Suits and masks are wonderful for social distancing!!!

Calendar Dates /Events /Sports / Ag Day Follow Up –  Each week Kay Elliott our newsletter and website editor for this area is updating the school calendar.  Sadly many events are being cancelled. Do keep a good eye on these as some sports outside of school are still planning on enabling their sport to happen.

Kia kaha, Ka kite ano,

Keep strong, we are here to support you and your child.

Gillian Bray
