FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

We are on the move!! As of 11:59pm tonight our lives start to open up more with retail and numbers at outdoor gatherings increasing.  This is a welcome relief for us all, as we know it is fantastic that Auckland is on track to make the 90% vaccination rate. I am one of those with a family that doesn’t live in Auckland and this means a great deal to me personally. I know many of you are in the same position.

Last week I spent time in ZOOM meets with 300 Auckland principals to put forward our thoughts and concerns around moving forward for schools. This information that was gathered on Friday went to Parliament and is being used to inform the next steps for our schools.  Whatever your political viewpoint is, please understand all decisions made are made with the input of many people, Ministry of Education officials, disease experts, principals of schools, but above all our health.

We are now waiting to hear what might happen going forward with the announcement on Wednesday.  It could be:

  1. Any time from the indicative date of 15th November
  2. In staggered groups, not the whole school at once e.g year groups
  3. It could be the whole school at once.
  4. Bubble sizes may change.

We will inform you as soon as we can of the details of when, what, and how this will all happen.  Please be assured all children that need to be in a Bubble continue to come on the days they need so this will not change.

Art Competition for everyone – Kia ora my name is Bella Browne Hale and I am one of your student councillors. One of my goals this year was to brighten and tidy up the school entrance. One of the things I wanted to do was to re-do the art that is next to the notice boards at the entrance. I have organised a competition for everyone in the school where if you win, your art could be proudly displayed at the school entrance.

You will have 3 weeks to create this art (final day for submission is Tuesday the 30th of November) which must feature either the team birds or an image of Ag Day. Once you have handed in your art (either by emailing a picture of your art to me at bellabrownehale@wainui.school.nz or by handing it to Mrs Bray at drop off) they will all be judged and there will be winners from each team.

The judges will then pick their top 2 overall winners and their art will be enlarged and displayed on the boards at the front of the school. Please complete this on a A4 sized surface (whether it’s card or paper or anything else) and when you hand it in, remember to include your name and year. So what are you waiting for, get creating – I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Thank You’s

1. For everyone that requires a place in a bubble, either new or already here for filling in our application form. If you haven’t, please request one from Mel, we intend to put this on the website.

2. For using the communication lines we have given you. Since the storm we had a few weeks ago we have experienced all sorts of problems with our phone lines and other technical areas. These are getting sorted, but we are an old school and it might be time to upgrade our “older” phone system.

Please use email and school mobile number – exo@wainui.school.nz or 027 525 1848.

3. For returning the chocolate money or the chocolates.  You have all been amazing!! Please get this back as the wonderful FOWS ladies, especially Tania Ledger is collating this. If you can’t get it back, please contact Mel or I and we will arrange a pick up of the money or the box!!

Lastly, enjoy this fabulous warm weather we are now having.  When we all return we have a wee surprise for you, something is being renovated!!

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray
