WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING
Pink Shirt Day – Fun whilst participating in a range of activities that all highlighted the importance of working together to stop bullying by celebrating diversity, promoting kindness and inclusivity. It is about creating a community where all of us feel safe, valued and respected regardless of any difference. Posters were made by each class, we all danced like crazy (even our Community Constables!!), we ate pink cup cakes, drank hot chocolate and participated in games and activities. We also raised $644.00 which will go to the Mental Health Foundation to help continue with the good work Pink Shirt Day promotes. Congratulations to Violet Clayton and Ella Maddox, Year 8 leaders for all your enthusiasm and hard work organising our day and for Leslie Ann Linn for the amazing hot chocolate!!
Wainui School Behaviour Policy Review, PB4L and Behaviour Steps – It is timely to have celebrated the awareness of bullying and what we do at our school to ensure we keep our children safe, cared for and address behaviour that is unacceptable or is of a bullying nature. Bullying is a sensitive topic, it is heightened in the media at times, it is a local, national and worldwide problem at various times. BUT we talk about this issue, we have clear procedures in school to ensure ‘bullying” is not accepted or condoned. Sometimes the teachers and myself are the last to know about anti social behaviours, children for a variety of reasons can go through a period of exhibiting unacceptable behaviour. Bullyingfree.nz has some fabulous resources.
Wainui School Policy’s are on School DOCs. To access these please go to https://www.schooldocs.co.nz/ Search for: Wainui School, User Name: wainui, Password: wai123, go to The Behaviour Policy, this is currently under review this term and your feedback is welcomed. If behaviour need addressing then teachers and staff use the Behaviour Management plan and steps in their classrooms. If behaviour needs further addressing, we would use stand down, suspension or exclusion following the Ministry of Education procedures.
We always ask that you talk to the teacher first before anything else occurs , sometimes behaviour is fast tracked to the Deputy Principal/SENCO or myself. Your child can talk to you about the behaviour steps, the values we hold high and what happens at Wainui School. Please feel free to make a time with any of us if you would like more information, or just to chat about the processes.
Netball Team Wainui Gems – Here is a post game photo of the Year 2 Wainui Gems team. They are all first time players and are doing so well winning 1-0. Luckily they didn’t get too wet. The team is coached by teacher Miss Brooke Hunter, she is so proud of her girls; Ella Vermeer, Adriana Magan, Kaira Allan, Amal Mamashayeva, Skylah Sweetman-Jones, Grace Horne and Mikey Long.
THIS WEEK
Whole School Assembly – You are all invited and welcome to attend. Tui and Takahe Teams will be the first to lead the performance and sharing part of the assembly, and the Hellyer cups will be presented to students in these teams. Two Year 8 leaders will MC the assembly and all classes will have certificates presented. I will have my feet up as Poppy and Isla Mexted will be the Principals’ for the day and will be handing out certificates and Hellyer cups. I am sure they will keep Mr Irvine very busy. Assemblies are times to celebrate, be together and recognise outstanding performance and achievement and each other.
NEXT WEEK
MasterChef Heats will begin – Ashton Becker-Crawford, Sunny Odedra and Samantha Neely are bringing back MasterChef. Covid has meant we haven’t had our much loved competition for a few years. Heats for Years 1-3 will be next week. Details will be finalised this week, please don’t worry as the food we cook/ prepare in the heats will be simple, affordable for us all and some will come from the school garden.
FINALLY
Driveway Safety – A huge thank you to everyone for indicating when moving off from drop off area – it is all helping. Please ensure patience is high in wet weather, we will always ensure your children are supervised. A raincoat for your child to wear would be great as we do not have the facilities to all wait under cover. Please refrain from overtaking on the driveway at pick up to get into the bottom carpark. If you come slightly later 5-10 minutes congestion is far less. Parking in the bottom carpark, we still need drivers to park closer to each other to ensure we maximise the number of cars that can fit down the bottom. Thank you everyone for keeping our driveway safe!!!
Ka kite ano,
Gillian Bray

Tim Bray Theatre Company
Tim Bray says, “Our 2022 season was planned during the long lockdown of 2021 and this announcement has been hampered by the uncertainty of the omicron outbreak. But all three shows are heartwarming and joyous celebrations for us all to come together once more as whānau. Badjelly the Witch will be a much-needed jolt of silliness and unbridled fun; The Whale Rider brings a beautiful and powerful storytelling that all young people should see (especially our indomitable girls); and The Santa Claus Show ‘22 will sprinkle you with joy, magic and meaning. I can’t wait to share these shows with you.” |
