WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING:

So Much to Celebrate:

Vincent and Mr Cochrane with the $400 voucher donated by Simone du Bernard of Harcourt’s Cooper & Co.

Sportsperson – Vincent Callaghan, we are all very proud of you for not only winning the title of Sportsmanship of the whole Rippa Tournament with 100’s of Hibiscus Coast students, but also winning $400 for us to spend on new sports equipment. A cheque was given to the school from Simone du Bernard of Harcourts Cooper & Co., who sponsored this event. Vincent and Mr Cochrane have had a great time spending this money on new sports equipment.

Attendance – Thank you for making the effort to contact us so consistently and let us know if you are planning on being away or must be off from school. You will notice there are new posters at school around this theme from the Government as many of us are aware the campaign is to lift attendance across New Zealand.

Our attendance has risen since this time last year, and attendance is linked to over all achievement. The aim is to be present  90% of the time that equates to only 5 days of absence a term. Sickness has hit us all hard this winter already so we do understand if this has happened to you. We would rather you got well and stayed home.

THIS WEEK

Waifactor Semi-Finals – Monday we had the year 5-8 semi finals and on Thursday we will have the Pukeko Team juniors and the Kiwi Team (year 3&4).

This competition is loved by so many in the school, including the student councillors organising this competition and the contestants – many of whom I know have practiced for hours! Well done everyone – it is great to see the enthusiasm and the wide variety of skills and talents!

Football InterSchool – Mr Cochrane has a group of 40 students from year 5&6 participating in the InterSchool Football Tournament for the Hibiscus Coast teams on Thursday. Have a great day everyone! We know you will represent us well just like Vincent did at the Rippa Tournament!

Friday we are all Jumping for June – This Friday 21st June

we will be holding Jumping June to raise money for the Heart Foundation. Students will take part in skipping based activities for 30 mins in teams and there will be a sausage sizzle, where proceeds will go to the Heart Foundation.

The sausage sizzle:
Sausages $2
Vegetarian Sausages $2
Juicies $2
The orders will be delivered to classes after 11.45am. Please bring in money to your class teacher on Friday morning before school.
On the day please wear shoes, you are welcome to dress up in red colours to support the Heart Foundation.
Thank you

Mrs Howard – Sports Coordinator

NEXT WEEK

Matariki – Come and join us and celebrate Matariki at the Performance Assembly on Tuesday 25th June at 9:15 am. Our work with Whaea LeeAnne will be shared in a performance. We will celebrate and make time to have kai and talk about the school strategy and long term goals we set as a Board over morning kai in the staffroom after the tamariki have all performed.

Our Year Group Teams, the Kapa Haka Group and our Mau Rākau Group will all perform.

Over the week the students will listen to stories about Matariki, participate in flax weaving and many other activities to honour this significant cultural event.

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray

COMMUNITY

Five Go on an Adventure –
Based on the famous adventure stories by Enid Blyton
Adapted for the stage by Tim Bray
The PumpHouse Theatre
29 June – 20 July 2024
Created for Ages: 5 – 10
Show Run Time: 50-60 mins (no interval)
Oh, what a marvellous adventure!
Julian, Dick and Anne, their cousin George, and dog Timmy, head off together on an adventure and end up having to solve a dastardly mystery. Along the way they meet some frightfully awful baddies and get into all sorts of scrapes. Luckily, our five heroes are famous for getting out of trouble!
With courage, capers and plenty of sandwiches and ginger beer, this Tim Bray Theatre Company show reminds us all that fun, friendship and fortitude always fool the felons! Hoorah!
After the sell-out 2023 season of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree, children of all ages (and their grown-ups) won’t want to miss this terrific tale.
