FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou Katoa

Last week of Term 2 – hard to believe we are halfway through the year!! End of the term means we have a few things to tidy up!!

Lost property – There is a large box of sweaters, shoes and other clothing in the office.  Please come and claim your items before we take all the unnamed pieces to the hospice.

Payments – Please ensure you have completed all outstanding payments on Kindo – thank you for this.

Mid Year Reports – Come home at the end of the week. These reports are an indication of how your child is tracking at the midpoint of the year in reading, writing, maths and general comment in terms of attitude, effort, relationships and school life.  In week four of Term 3 we have learning conversations. This is a good time to discuss the mid-year report and revisit/review the goals made in Term 1.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

Thank you, Thank you, everyone!! – We have all 15 Japanese students coming on the 30th July housed and hosted by our Wainui Families!!  Miss Ludwig and I are just thrilled at all the families who have come forward before the holidays. We will now get lots of information to you prior to the arrival of our guests and let you know the pre-meeting time.

Lots of fun had today at the Tough Guy & Gal Challenge for the Year 7&8’s – Essentially this is a mud run that brings the biggest smiles to their faces. I can’t wait to see the photos – well-done everyone for giving it a go and participating.

NEXT TERM

Powhiri – Monday 22nd July at 9:10am – This Powhiri is to welcome our new teacher’s Jonas Mahler and Kylie Allen, as well as all new families who have started since the beginning of the year and haven’t been welcomed, or are starting on Monday 22nd July.

Munch Box  – Will be coming back with new owners in Term 3 – look out for more information.

Chocolate Fundraiser – The FOWS will be running a Whittaker’s chocolate fundraising drive early in Term 3. The idea will be that each family will have a box to sell (more if you wish).  The details of the incentives and pricing will be sent out later. This fundraiser will enable families to contribute even more to improving the play areas at the school.  We have lots of plans to further continue.

Thrive On – Elise Louard (Mum of Teah and Leonie) and trained teacher is bringing a new programme to Wainui School

Thrive On Education provides specialised programmes for children displaying learning difficulties at school, or for children previously diagnosed with a learning disability such as ADHD and dyslexia. The programmes are designed to work in partnership with schools to obtain the optimal learning environment for children. The programmes can be used at home, or at school and help the parents become better advocates for their child’s learning needs.

Thrive On Education assesses each child, identifying their individual strengths, interests, learning styles, and optimal learning environment, while also determining the possible gaps in the foundations on which future learning depends. https://thriveoneducation.com/   Elise will be offering free assessments and will be at Wainui School on Wednesday 24th July 2019 to discuss the programme.

FINALLY

July 1st – Means you can start raising and rearing a Lamb or Kid Goat for Ag Day!!  Mrs Taylor will be including snippets from now on in the newsletter each week to help us prepare for our biggest community day!! This year the date for Ag Day and Country Fair is Friday 25th October. There is already a team from the FOWS and school to organise this day. Please feel free to join them if you would like to help. (You do not need experience just enthusiasm!!)

Please remember if you are taking a holiday outside of the school holidays, you do need to inform the school in an email as we have to record your child’s absence on the computerised roll.

Have a wonderful break everyone, see you back safe and well on Monday the 22nd July.

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray

Ag Day 2019

Friday 25th October

Update # 2

If you are interested in entering a lamb or kid goat for Ag Day this year, you may procure your animals from now until 15th September!!   There will be NO calves again this year.

The school holidays provide an excellent opportunity for the children to bond with their animals – spending time feeding, loving and caring for their new friend!!

Come along to Friday’s assembly, where Nikki Browne will be bringing along her “kids”!! There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions about rearing and showing an animal.

We are ordering the day old chicks again too (Brown Shavers). Orders need to be placed by July 29th with the chicks being delivered to school on August 13th. Orders to: [email protected]

Chicks are $6.00 each.
