FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Konichiwa!!

What a busy fun time we have been having! This is the second week of our hosting of the 15 students, teacher, travel agent and coordinator. I would firstly like to thank all the families for hosting, we have heard so many good tales of families welcoming these students into their homes. The visit is primarily for the the students to practise their English and experience Kiwi life . Mrs Taylor and I spent Saturday at the Matakana market with Mr Tamuki and Kanoko enjoying the atmosphere and having some delicious food. We also visted a number of beaches.

On Thursday we will have the Sayonara Party where by we hold a special assembly and share some of the experiences of the week. All host families are invited to attend the assembly that starts at 2:00pm and then to a special afternoon tea.

The host families of Allen, Doherty, Gray, Headford, Joubert, Latham, Mallon, Marshall, Mayes, Mexted, Minton, Partner and Robinson, you have all been doing a wonderful job and we thank you very much.

Below is a link to the blog Mr Kumaki is keeping  it is a wonderful insight into the trip!!

WHAT ELSE HAS BEEN HAPPENING

Disco – What a great night we all had! A huge thank you to Mr Irvine, students Matt Cator who was DJ for the evening, what an amazing job you did Matt, Serena Wyers all night helping at the disco “shop”  and to all the Year 8’s who helped prepare for the night!!  The funds raised go towards the Year 8 Graduation. We have some special moments to share, one being the student initiated ” disco haka”

Cross Country – Held last Friday. What a great turn out from parents to support this event. Despite the wild and windy weather we all tried our best and ran our races. Congratulations to the first four students in Year’s 5 -8 who will go on and represent us at the Interschool Competitions. Thank you to the AIMs Games parents for the bacon and egg butties and coffee. Results of the cross country will be in next week’s newsletter.

THIS WEEK

Sayonara Assembly and Party – This will be held on Thursday afternoon the 8th August. Sayonara Japanese for goodbye. This assembly is a time for us to say farewell, our Kapa haka group will perform, the students will speak, both Hatsushiba students and Wainui students and we will exchange some gifts.  Following this there will be a special party for the students and families until 4:00pm. All parents are most welcome to attend, even if you were not a part of hosting the students.

Whole school assembly – Pukeko team will be the featured team this week sharing their fun and learning. Value to celebrate in certificates is “Resilience” and the assembly starts at 9:30 am.

NEXT WEEK

Chocolate Sales End!! – Already we have lots of empty chocolate boxes with the money returned!! All monies must be returned by Monday 12th August. We are all doing a fantastic job of selling chocolate! If every family sells at least one box we can get on with more improvements to our play areas as we will make a good profit. Lets see if we can have every box sold by Monday (Please return a full box now if this is impossible!!).

COMING UP

“Learning Conversations” are next week !! Tuesday 13th, Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th August. We expect every family to come with their child.  It is so important for us at school for the best success. Go to School Interviews to make a time.

FINALLY

A big thank you from me for the after school pick up!! It is so much safer and calmer at the round about this year. I thank you for being considerate in your parking to pick up your children. Very soon we are having civil works to improve and widen this area. It will cause a bit of upheaval for a short time but the long term gain is exciting. I will keep you all posted on the time frames and what will happen after a meeting on Thursday.

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray
