FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Daffodil Day.

Kia ora Koutou,

Spring is here!! We are surrounded by lambs, daffodils and are able to get outside on the field and enjoy the bike track. Ag Day preparation is underway so my challenge to everyone is GET INVOLVED!! If we all volunteered a little bit of time either on the day or before, imagine how much easier it would be!! Ag Day and the Country Fair are real traditions of our school and many rural schools in New Zealand. Ag Day celebrates the rural community we live in. Children can raise a lamb, calf, chicken, or kid goat or they can create a pet egg habitat. All children will create arts and crafts and will display these in the classrooms.

These are judged by our grandparents and ex-community members who love coming back to visit and see what we have been doing. I have a list of people who love helping do this on the Thursday afternoon before Ag Day.

Finally Ag Day is on Friday not Saturday to ensure every school student can come. It is the one day of the year we ask you to take time off work either the whole day or part of the day. Bring your family, your neighbours your grandparents and have a great day out. All college students will need to be with a parent or be a helper as all schools have tightened up on Attendance including ourselves.

This week’s newsletter focus:

  • Daffodil Day
  • Tui Team Camps
  • Life Education Classroom
  • MasterChef Junior School

Daffodil Day – Thank you to Isabelle Lehmann and Ayla Lodge, year 8 student leaders for the fun we all had last Friday wearing yellow, and getting together to participate in this very meaningful day. We raised a total of $500 with donations and the sale of juicies. This has been uploaded to the Cancer Society Daffodil Day website.

THIS WEEK

Tui Team Camps – This year Mr Cochrane is having a whole week at camp, he loves Outdoor Education and has worked on camps for a number of years. He totally understands the why of camp and the benefits!!

The Year 6’s have gone for the first two nights of this week and the year 5’s will go for the last two nights!! Camp for Tui Team is at Shakespear Lodge, a real favourite of Wainui School!! The students participate in challenges, fun activities both during the day and in the evening!! Activities such as kayaking, the wonderful climbing wall, archery, night walks, team building games!!

The mobile classroom.

Life Education Classroom – Is here for the final few days. Thank you to Yvonne the mobile classroom educator for your fun, insightful lesson, based around Relationships and Communities, Health and Wellbeing for the older children, peer pressure  friendship, resilience and dealing with conflict. The Life Education Trust has been around since the late 80’s, many of you will remember the early days of the Life Education lessons. I am on the Rodney Life Education Trust Board, there are 15 Trust Boards throughout New Zealand delivering these relevant life lessons to children everywhere!! Harold continues to accompany them and is as popular as ever. The Rodney mobile classroom travels to schools as far north as Mangawhai as well as to Huapai and the Hibiscus Coast. More information on our region can be found on this link https://www.lifeeducation.org.nz/regions/rodney

MasterChef Junior School – Is on this Friday, 6th September, Block 3, 12:15pm in the hall. The call to make sandwiches came from some concerns over using hotplates. There will be just one competition for the juniors. We can’t wait to see the creations. All contestants have received the new brief. Please let us know if you haven’t.

NEXT WEEK

2023 Kapa haka group ready to perform at Whangaparaoa College.

Tu Maia Festival – This is last year’s group ready to perform, this year the festival is over two days at Orewa Primary School. We perform on Friday, 13th September at 12:45pm. Thank you Whaea LeeAnne Wade for all your passion, commitment and skill in training our group, we are so grateful and thankful for your time and energy. Everyone is welcome to come along and support our Kapa haka group.

FINALLY

Thank you to everyone for turning out to the second Learning Conversations for the year. What a wonderful turnout it was showing the commitment everyone has to ensuring it is a partnership between home and school. Working together strengthens the child’s learning pathway, if the support for this journey is stronger the outcomes will be better! If you missed a time teachers are open to doing catch up conversations as we aim for 100% attendance. That is how much it means to us!!!

School Donations – It is not too late to contribute!!! Thank you to every family that has contributed the annual donation or the corresponding termly amount if new. The amount is only $200 first child, $175 second child and any more children as we cap it at that. This enables us to supplement the school counsellor and teacher aides and provide technology – all vital for ensuring our students are all catered for. If you have forgotten or need to do so please contribute through Kindo,  internet banking or at the office via eftpos.
