WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING – LOTS!!

  • Holiday Work and Upgrades –
    • Bike Track – What an amazing job Chad Mexted from our Board and his team have done over the holiday’s to upgrade the bike track! The track is now smooth and beautifully concreted, with fun features including speed bumps and a table top. We were all so excited about this awesome upgrade, and can’t thank everyone enough. This was able to happen with some insurance money and funds raised by the community!!
    • Shade – We now have a new shade sail over the Junior Playground! Again all doable with funds raised by YOU, the community!
    • Goal Posts – Massive thank you to Board member Annaliese Hewitt for one of her successful grant applications. Huge thank you to Mr. Irvine for ensuring these have been placed perfectly!!
    • New Picnic Tables – We have been able to get new wooden kitset tables from Cypress Sawmill. Again, all made possible with another grant application by Annaliese Hewitt.
    • Wainui School Board met with Strategic Planning Facilitator, Alan Curtis from NZSTA to begin the process of using the first lot of community consultation material. This will aid in preparing our new Strategic Plan following the new reporting requirements issued by the Ministry of Education. Thank you to everyone that filled in the survey, if you missed out and want to provide your input, please click here for a link to the survey. Please complete this by Monday 17th October.

What an amazing community we have! Thank you everyone! We are still in need of volunteers for our Working Bee and Ag Day. We would love some more help!!

THIS WEEK

  • Working Bee – Friday 13th October 2:00 – 4:30pm – We have had to change our Sunday morning time as many of us will be watching the All Blacks!! Please join us in your old clothes to do that last spruce up for Ag Day. We will be cleaning up under and around the hall, and getting rid of the last 0f the furniture and old wood.  We will be doing a bit of landscaping – weeding and mulching gardens, even building a path from our school to the Olliff’s driveway and installing a new gate. If you can help, either turn up or let us know in the office that you are coming!! There will be refreshments on Friday and time for a bit of socialising afterwards, as all good working bees do!!
  • Young Farmer of the Year 2023 – Friday 13th October – The Young Farmer of the Year is a traditional activity that has been part of Wainui School Ag Day activities for many years. It is a chance for all of our students to challenge themselves, have a bit of fun, and maybe learn something new. This Friday, we were due to run all year groups through the activities but, due to the installation of the new bike track and the vulnerability of the soil around the edge, the decision has been made to postpone the Year 1 to 4 competition – date TBA. The Year 5 to 8 competition will go ahead as planned, utilising other spaces around the school, so we can find the Year 5 to 8 finalists for Ag Day, which will be held on Friday, the 20th of October.
  • Election Day, Saturday 14th of October – Wainui School Hall is once again a voting centre for the surrounding community.

NEXT WEEK

  • Ag Day and Country Fair, Friday, 20th of October – Thank you to our teacher Kylie Allen, FOWS President Lesley Ann Linn, and everyone who is working hard to help with our biggest day of the year!! Our teachers and students are diligently working on their classroom displays, we are tidying up the school and preparing the grounds for a day to remember.
  • Ag Day – Friday 20 October 2023 – Update #10

Only 1 ½ weeks to go!! Have you booked your day off yet? We are still needing more volunteers! Thank you to those who have filled in the volunteer form to help us on Ag Day, especially the families who are giving us more than one hour of your time – it is hugely appreciated. Here is the link to the form Volunteer Form for Ag day if you haven’t done so already.

Donations: A huge thank you to those who have been dropping off donations for the Ag Day raffles and games. This week’s donation is a King sized bar of chocolate for the very popular Chucko-choc game!! If you haven’t had time to make a weekly donation, you’re more than welcome to make a $30 donation to the school and we will do the shopping on your behalf (you can make this donation via Kindo as well).

Market Stalls: Thank you to those who have filled in the Market Stall form. There is still time to register if you wish to have a stall. Register your Market Stall table to sell toys, clothes, books, crafts, plants, preserves, old fashioned lollies (e.g. coconut ice, fudge, toffee, hokey pokey) OR second hand goods etc. If you would like to have a stall at our Ag Day please fill in this registration form Ag day & Gala Market Stalls Registration form

Pet Eggs (For children without Ag Day animals): I hope the egg habitat creations are going well!! If you haven’t started, this weekend would be the last weekend to get it started and completed. You will need to purchase an egg, give it a name, birthday, best friend, favourite colour, favourite food, favourite song and hobby/interests. Pet Egg Information sheet.

There are more printed sheets on the trolley by the Ag Day display in the office if you don’t have access to a printer.

Cake boxes: The cake boxes will be coming home next week – one per family. Please fill with home baking of a cake, a slice, muffins, cupcakes (anything we can sell at the cake stall on the day).

If you have any questions (big or small) about Ag Day, please email me on kallen@wainui.school.nz  I can’t wait to see you all there, enjoying the best school day ever!

COMING UP

  • Calendar Dates & Teacher Only Day (TOD) – All events and dates for Term 4 are on our school website calendar linked here. We hope this is helpful to you and your family.  We will have a Teacher Only Day on Friday 17th of November.

FINALLY

  • Lamb Daycare – As we are getting closer to Ag Day, the lambs are getting bigger, need more fresh grass and our pens are getting too small for them. If you can please keep them at home, we would appreciate it.  A lot of our time is spent catching escapees at the moment as they are able to jump the fence and they are looking for fresh grass.
  • Lost clothing, shoes, etc – After washing, drying and taking to hospice the huge amount of “left behind clothing”, this term we want to make sure everyone goes home with their belongings. This is in line with our core value of RESPECT, and we must work hard to ensure each day we go home with all of our clothes, shoes, hats etc. that we came to school with. Please, can you at home help by naming these belongings. Each week we will collect hopefully only 1 or 2 left behind clothes, and number them according to the week found. If still not claimed we will dispose of these after two weeks to charity. I know we can do this!! Thank you in advance for your help.

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray

Jack and Adam Huggins – NZ Motocross Champs – NZ1 & NZ3 – The NZ Mini Motocross National competition was held in Christchurch last weekend. 200 riders competed aged from 5 – 11 years old over various different motorbike categories.  Approx 120 of those riders were from the North Island, the rest from the South Island.  This comp is basically like the Olympics of NZ Motocross!

There were 5 races over 2 days and each race is worth points.  The winner is the rider with the highest amount of points.

Jack finished 2nd in 2 races, 3rd in 1 race and 1st in his last 2 races which made him the most consistent rider and with his points accumulated meant he won overall and he is the 2023 New Zealand Champion of Mini Motocross!!  (1NZ for short )

Adam did amazing as well – he competed in 2 classes and came away with a 3rd place overall in the 4 – 7 Intro Trail class so we can now call him 3NZ to0!

This is an incredible achievement for Jack and Adam! Congratulations to you both!
