FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou Wainui whānau,

This weeks newsletter is unprecedented and unlike one I have written before.

Teachers and some support staff are here at school today doing a number of things in preparation for Alert level 4.

We hope you are all well and preparing for Alert Level 4.

As you will now be aware, New Zealand will be moving to Alert Level 4 from 11.59pm on Wednesday the 25th of March. What this means is that Wainui School will be closed for the next 4 weeks, it could be more we do not know yet.

What you may not be aware of is that the Ministry of Education has moved the timing of the school holidays. These will start on Monday 30th of March and conclude on Tuesday 14th of April (after Easter). Alert Level 4 is expected to go beyond the conclusion of the school holidays. As a staff, we are currently planning what school will look like for your child upon the conclusion of the school holidays.

In the meantime, your child’s teacher will make contact with you today via email to ensure you can connect. Please respond as quickly as possible. Once contact has been made your child’s teacher will provide you with some simple ideas you can implement.

At this point in time your child / children will be concerned, as you are. Please take the time to make your child feel safe and provide guidance when they are unsure or confused. We will be in touch in due course regarding our distance learning programmes for each year level.

Nga mihi nui,

The staff of Wainui School

OTHER INFORMATION

Sports – A message from Mrs Hill

The winter sports season for Hockey and Netball and most probably basketball have been pushed to at this stage the end of May. We will keep you posted if this changes . All schools have been asked to continue to register teams, organise teams as per normal and just prepare for a late start.

There are to be NO practices until further notice.  To complete some teams we need some more players.

Netball  – We need at least two more Year 2’s, two more Year 3’s and 3 more Year 4’s. Please let Mrs Hill know on [email protected]

Hockey We need one more Year 3 / 4 girl for hockey.

Tui Team Camp – The planned annual camp at Carey Park Henderson has been cancelled. We are so sorry but this was a decison we made as a team as it is too close to an unknown date of return to school. We will hold an EOTC week in Term 4, details of which will be shared with you all when we return. We will make it lots of fun with lots of challenges.

FINALLY

I will regularly update you all as to the staus of school opening, and any other details you may need to know via the newsletter, please keep an eye on this.

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.

What is the most important thing in the world? It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.

Take care we will miss seeing you all

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray and the staff of Wainui
