FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Kia ora Koutou,
It’s official! We have launched our first fundraiser and fun event for the year: BIKE-A-THON!!!!
Date: FRIDAY, 5th APRIL
How: Just go to our Fundraising Hub page at: https://wainuischoolbikeathon.raiseit.co.nz/
How will this fundraiser work? This year we have partnered with online fundraising company Go Raise It. Collecting sponsorship online makes it super easy for everyone – no more door knocking, your child can collect more donations from further afield (friends & family living overseas, work colleagues etc) and no need to worry about handling cash!
How do I sign my child up to fundraise online? Each child can sign up for their very own fundraising web page to send out to collect online sponsorship from anyone, anywhere!
Why: Join us and have fun while raising much needed funds for our school! The funds raised by our school community make a huge difference in enhancing the overall school environment and educational outcomes of all our students. This year funds raised will go towards two exciting new projects: Our Garden to Table program and our new Outdoor Classroom. Both these fantastic projects will allow our children to learn about the natural world, our environment and have hands on learning in nature – the best place for children to learn. This will benefit both our current and future students. Let’s all come together and make this our best Bike-a-thon yet!
What Else: To keep everyone fuelled up we will have the BBQ going for a sausage sizzle, and juicies to cool down after all of that cycling! Also, our coffee cart will be there along with other sweet treats! Our Garden to Table stall will have fresh and fabulous items for purchase and Wainui Hockey will have pre-loved books for sale.
Learning Conversations
Learning Conversations – Will be held on Wednesday, 3rd April. You can make your appointment between 1:30pm-7:30 pm at night so there is a time for everyone. Please make the time to meet with your child and their teacher, they want to share what they are learning, what they are doing in their classroom, and see what you can help with!! School is still open this day! Mrs Bray and Miss Stevenson along with the Teacher Aides and the Year 8 Leaders are running the afternoon programme, enabling children to come-and-go to the Learning Conversations. The aim at Wainui School is to have 100% attendance at Learning Conversations, so please book yours!! The partnership between home and school is vitally important and works best when everyone is involved – whanau, tamariki and kaiako or family, child and teacher!! We are on this journey together.

SWIMMING & CRICKET
Year 7&8 Swimming Sports – Congratulations to our Year 7 and 8 students for their outstanding effort at the InterSchool Swimming competition at Kaipara College. Demonstrating the values of resilience, respect, and strong relationships, they performed brilliantly with the relay team of both year levels securing a place. A special mention to Isabella Lehmann, who achieved a top 3 placing in each of her races – an incredible accomplishment! Their support for one another and commendable sportsmanship were on full display. We’re proud of their achievements and the positive way they represented our school community.
Year 5&6 Swimming Sports – This year our focus is on everyone swimming regularly, developing water confidence and having fun in the water. Water confidence is further developed with snorkelling trips to Goat Island, stand up Paddle Boarding and later in the year with Camp for all year 5-8 students.
Interschool Cricket – Last Thursday our students competed against 12 other schools in InterSchool Cricket. Students were able to gain experience, have fun and develop their skills out on the pitch. The Wainui Girls team came in 2nd overall and the boys placed 1st overall!! We are so proud of everyone’s teamwork and sportsmanship!!
FINALLY
This year I will be highlighting some of the wonderful parents, grandparents and special friends, that support our school and help us in volunteer roles. If you would like to help, support/ sponsor or volunteer – please let me or the office staff know! We love any help you’re able to provide. There are so many ways you can be involved. From joining up as a Board member, FOWS (Friends of Wainui School), or helping regularly in the classroom, in Garden to Table, in the kitchen, it could be with fixing bikes or coaching a sports team – it really does take a village!!
Look out for our first “Good Sort” of Wainui School in next week’s newsletter!
Ka kite ano,
Gillian Bray
