FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

Thank you to everyone who has already registered for Bike-a-thon on the “Raise It” fundraising page, and for spreading the word about our biggest annual fundraising event, being held on Friday, 5th of April!

If you haven’t yet, please sign up and be a part of the teamwork!!

How:  Simply go to our fundraising hub page at: https://wainuischoolbikeathon.raiseit.co.nz/

We are getting SO excited and working very hard to prepare at school! The bike track is looking awesome, we have assigned responsible new bike monitors to help on the track, and the day is planned for maximum fun!!

WE NEED you to help by signing up and enlisting the help of friends and family in sponsorship!!

Here are some facts: We have 307 students at Wainui School today. If everyone raised $20 we would raise – $6,140!  If everyone raised $50 we would raise $15, 350 If everyone raised $100 we would raise $30,700.  That would be such an amazing help to our school on our mission to do improve our Garden to Table programme, to improve our school counselling services and to help gain some of our wishlist items.

This event is sponsored by PitStop Silverdale and Platinum Homes. The Major Prize this year is a $500 voucher for EVO bikes. Other prizes include a MADD Scooter, Skateboard, and Megazone voucher!!

Bella-Rose Bretherton is this week’s winner of the Karaoke Microphone!! Get your page created and 1 donation in by Friday, 22nd March to go in the draw to win some Black Head wireless headphones!

Wainui School Board – Appointment of Staff Representative – Mrs Sandy Blackburn takes the vacant position of Staff Board Representative on the Wainui School Board. Congratulations Sandy, we know you bring a wealth of experience with you and will be great in this role!

Learning Conversations – Wednesday, 3rd April –  Please book your time between 1:30pm and 7:30pm. See link and instructions below. If you are able to help by picking up your child at 1:30pm we would appreciate this, as would help Mrs Bray and Miss Stevenson to run a more manageable afternoon program for the students that need to stay.

You can make your appointment between 1:30pm-7:30 pm – so there is a time for everyone. Please make the time to meet with your child and their teacher, they want to share what they are learning, what they are doing in their classroom, and see what you can help with!!  Mrs Bray and Miss Stevenson along with the Teacher Aides and the Year 8 Leaders are running the afternoon programme, enabling children to come-and-go to the Learning Conversations. The aim at Wainui School is to have 100% attendance at Learning Conversations, so please book yours!! The partnership between home and school is vitally important and works best when everyone is involved – whanau, tamariki and kaiako or family, child and teacher!! We are on this journey together.

PUMS – All teachers who are members the NZEI Teachers Union are entitled to a paid 1/2 day union meeting, and these are taking place today.  This will not affect learning or school attendance as the teachers are not all going, and those going are alternating to ensure there is no disruption to learning.

FINALLY

E Tu Tangata – Our school has officially adopted the E Tu Tangata School Mindset. We are tackling ‘tall poppy syndrome’ to help shift the culture of criticism and replace it with messages of value and worth. This Friday we are celebrating our joining of E Tu Tangata by participating in “Colour Your Day”. We can all join in by wearing our brightest colours this Friday – let’s make this Assembly really colourful and fun!

Ka kite ano,

When you return, you can now complete a digital New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) before you fly back into New Zealand – replacing the need to fill out a paper declaration card on the plane.

Everyone coming into New Zealand needs to complete an NZTD. You’ll answer questions about your trip and what’s in your bags. You can complete it at a time that suits you, on the NZTD website or by downloading the NZTD app, and submit it 24 hours before your trip back to New Zealand.
