FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Kia ora Koutou,
Ko te reo Māori ko tātou te motu, ko tātou te motu ko te reo Māori.
Māori language is a part of who we are as a nation. Ahakoa iti, ākona, kōrerotia I tēnei rā, i ia rā, i ia rā. Learn a little, use a little today and every day.
This is exactly what we all did last week and continue to do every day. We had a fabulous day on Friday sharing all the waiata, haka, and the kai with each other. The saddest part was we couldn’t share with you as parents and caregivers. We do have a plan though to share next term trusting COVID levels return to a level where we can invite you all back to join in and celebrate with us and your child.
WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING
Kowhai Day – This was fun, delicious and raised $734:00. Congratulations to our House Captains (Student Leaders, Year 8) who led this day so passionately. The games will continue on Wednesday afternoon as the weather stopped us finishing. Congratulations to Kayla Palladin and Mia Thompson for your outstanding leadership!!!
THIS WEEK
Is Chinese language week and Sign Language week.
Covid-19 Level 2 – Assembly on Friday – We can invite all the Hellyer Cup winners parents / caregivers and up 100 extra people. If you are coming you must sign in, but be prepared if there were more than 100 to be asked to leave if you are not a Hellyer cup recipient supporter!! Next term I am sure we will back to Level 1 and we can all come!!
Congratulations to all of us for the resilience shown and the hard work we have all done to keep our learning going!!
Learning Conversations – Thank you to all parents that have attended a learning conversation either in person, via ZOOM, or phone call. At Wainui School, the partnership with parents/caregivers is vital for success. We can all work together to achieve happy successful outcomes. If you haven’t been able to catch up with your child’s teacher, you can still do this at the beginning of Term 4.
FOWS Meeting – Wednesday 24th September in the staffroom – and yes we are going ahead and planning for Ag Day & Country Fair and Christmas in the Country. We are so looking forward to these events happening so keep your fingers crossed!!
Crane on the Roundabout – By the time you read this, we will hopefully not have delays like the Auckland Harbour bridge!! However, jokes aside I know this is bad timing but the building is already delayed and the building company could not afford more delays. Please be patient, especially at pick up, this is only for a few days. Thank you!!
NEXT WEEK
Holidays – Enjoy, be safe and hopefully we will return for Term 4 and be in Covid-19 Level 1
Sports Practices – There are no practices held on the school grounds over the holidays due to the building works.
COMING UP
Ag Day and Country Fair – Friday 23rd October – Animals are being raised, crafts and artifacts created at school, and items being donated for the fair!! This is our biggest fun day of the year, one we look forward to and one that is full of tradition but also always has new additions or something new to look forward to.
FINALLY
Before you finish the term, come and rescue some lost property (the box is slightly smaller) or return books or learning material borrowed!!
Attached is the online presentation of our Intermediate area of the school, we offer a wonderful, personalised programme full of fun, challenge opportunities in leadership, digital technologies, technology, sport, environment (Apiarist, conservation, pest control, interacting, being in the bush environment) and of course all in our fantastic safe environment – please see attached – https://youtu.be/nVP9rnKsYto
This year for the first time we have a Chicken Trophy!! This has been donated by Serena Parsons and her family. Serena is now in Year 9 but was always a keen advocate of the school chickens and loves breeding chickens herself. Thank you, Serena!!
Ka kite ano,
Gillian Bray

The Music Man Kids & Beauty & The Beast JR Coming this October School Holidays…..2 Shows For the price of 1 – A double bill!! – 1st – 3rd October 2020 At Centrestage Theatre, Orewa – Northern School of Performing Arts will be producing not 1 but 2 shows this year “THE MUSIC MAN KIDS & BEAUTY & THE BEAST JR” in October of this year at Centrestage Theatre in Orewa. It will be during the first week of the October school holidays. We hope to follow in the footsteps of our much talked about sell out season of SHREK last year. As with most theatre this year it has been pretty tough and as you can imagine the cost to put on these shows is huge so we must sell our tickets!!!
We do love it as its all about the kids and producing amazing productions for the community. Our creative team has vast amounts of experience within Musical Theatre in New Zealand. Our cast are based all over North Shore and Rodney District.
Director: Sophia Pedersen, Musical Director: Annelie Maddock, Choreographer: Alicia Chadwick-Cook.
