FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora Koutou,

THIS WEEK

Bike-a-thon – This Friday 5th April – This week it’s all about Bike-a-thon. Thank you to everyone for sharing the fundraising page with all your friends and family in New Zealand and around  the world – we are over $18,000!! If you haven’t done so already, here is the link, https://wainuischoolbikeathon.raiseit.co.nz/ to set up your fundraising page and see how we are tracking with the fundraising totals. Keep sharing your child’s fundraising page, funds raised this year will go towards our Garden to Table program and our new Outdoor Classroom.

Thank you to Monique Ritchie from the FOWS for organising the fundraising side of the Bike-a-thon and to Luke Cochrane for organising the event on the day. Hugh thank you once again to our fabulous sponsors, Pit Stop Silverdale and Platinum Homes. The Major Prize this year is a $500 voucher for EVO bikes. Other prizes include a MADD Scooter, Skateboard, and Megazone voucher!!

We are so fortunate to have generous families and friends all over the world who help us. It would be amazing to have everyone enrolled at Wainui School have a fundraising page and a minimum 3 sponsors!! Massive thank you to everyone for getting behind this event.

Here is the link to the timetable for the day and where to store your bikes etc. Wainui School Bikeathon 2024 On the day there will be a sausage sizzle, juicies, coffee for sale. We will also have the “Second Hand Book Sale” stall for our Winter Sports fundraiser.

We can’t wait for the day on Friday!!

Swimming Pool –  With the weather now getting a bit cooler, the teams have decided to finish their swimming programmes in the school pool so the school pool is now closed.

NEXT WEEK

Tui Team Assembly – Last week of term we will finish with a Whole School Assembly on Friday 12th April, where we will celebrate Tui Team’s learning and Hellyer cup winners and the Prizegiving for BIKE-A-THON!!!

FINALLY

Attendance is a focus of the new government as well and always has been a focus and expectation of Wainui School. Please be aware as you plan ahead for the year that all time away for school must be accounted for and is recoded on our Student Management System. It is a legal requirement to attend school every day once you have enrolled. This enables the full school years programme to be delivered to your child.

What to do if you are away:

  1. Sick – It is important you let us know each day before 9am as we will follow up if you don’t to ensure everyone is safe. If we text you it will cost us as well. Sick leave is accepted of course, over a number of days doctors certificates should be sent in as well.
  2. Family leave – Bereavement, Tangi leave are all acceptable and will be marked appropriately.
  3. Holiday leave – A letter/ email must be sent to the Principal for approval and/ or accountability as to the recording of this leave for the Ministry of Education.
  4. Any other leave please inform the Principal and you will be advised as to the type of leave to apply for.

Our attendance is averaging at 89% which is good but we would love it to be 95% and above.

Thank you everyone.

Ka kite ano,

Gillian Bray
