FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Kia ora koutou katoa,

We’re into Week 4 of a 9-week term and there is plenty to keep us busy! The weather has been amazing and warm lately but today feels a bit like winter.

News Focus:

  • Camp Raglan
  • South Kaipara Schools Group Day
  • FOWS
  • Year 5-8 Athletics
  • Principal for the Day
  • Pukeko Team Assembly
  • Sun Protection
  • Buses and After School Pick-Up

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

Camp Raglan – After three days of adventure and two days of recovery, the Year 5 to 8 students have returned to school buzzing about their experience. From all accounts, Camp Raglan was very successful with a number of children experiencing something new! Many thanks to the Year 5 to 8 teachers, led by Miss Stevenson, who organised and ran a memorable camp experience.

South Kaipara Schools Group Day – Congratulations to Harry Browne Hale, Leo Soulsby, Mia Soulsby, Jackson Ledger, Hunter Mallon, Taylah Hadley, Amani Linton, Liam Doherty, and Kyla Erasmus, who represented Wainui School at the recent South Kaipara Schools Group Day. A special thanks to Mrs. Kylie Allen for her time and effort to ensure it was a fantastic day for all participants.

THIS WEEK

FOWS – This Wednesday, the 9th of November at 7 pm, the FOWS (Friends of Wainui School) group will be meeting in the staffroom for one of the last meetings of a very successful year. The main focus of discussion will be Christmas in the Country so if you have some time, you’re welcome to attend.

NEXT WEEK

Year 5-8 Athletics – Next Tuesday, the 15th of November, all of our Year 5 to 8 students will spend the day throwing things, jumping things, and sprinting down the field on our annual athletics day. Parents are welcome to come along and cheer on the students as they compete for glory! There will a Sausage Sizzle and Juicies available to purchase on the day. Students will be selected to attend either the Kaipara Schools Athletics day on Friday, the 18th of November (Year 7/8) or the HBC Interschool Athletics on Friday, the 25th of November (Year 5/6). Principal for the Day – On Friday, the 18th of November, Mrs. Bray and myself will be able to put our feet up and relax because we will have two principal’s for the day – Abigail and Genevieve Watt! I have spoken to Abigail and she has said “It’s going to be an amazing and funny Friday. Make sure you’re prepared for a fun day!” We can’t wait!

Pukeko Team Assembly – Our Year 1 and 2 children will host their assembly on Friday, the 18th of November. Parents are invited and welcome to attend.

FINALLY

Sun Protection – Now that we are well into Term 4, our Sun Protection policy is being followed. Wainui School requires staff and students to wear hats which protect the face whenever they are outside and involved in school activities. Students at school without a hat must remain in an allocated shaded area at break times.

Buses and After School Pick-Up – We’d like to extend our thanks to our school community for adhering to the changes to after school pick-up, which has created a calmer and safer environment for you and your children. A reminder that between the hours of 2.30 and 3.15 pm, our roundabout is reserved for buses only. We also ask that you avoid leaving large gaps between cars when parking on Little Bush Road so we can fit more vehicles in.

All the best to our Black Ferns rugby team as they attempt to lift the Women’s Rugby World Cup in the final against England this Saturday. Kia kaha e ngā wahine toa!

Ngā mihi nui e te whānau. Ka kite ano,

Jason Irvine
(Standing in for Mrs. Bray)
