Kia ora Koutou, Haere mai to everyone!! A very wet welcome back to term 3!!
Despite the terrible weather to start the term we all met together in the hall, to welcome back all students and staff members and welcome our new people!!
Welcome to Mrs Leana Chambers a new teacher in the Junior school based in Karaka class taking a group of new entrants/ year 1’s. This enables Mrs Allen to welcome in a new group of New Entrants. We look forward to getting to know you.
We are all very prepared and organised for a full learning term, term 3 is seen as this term!! Please do not hesitate to ask questions, come and meet the teacher, myself of Mr Irvine, Deputy Principal and SENCO, (Special Education Needs Coordinator) if you need support for your child in any way. We are approachable and here to ensure your child is the centre of decisions, we won’t always get it right but we will listen and we will look for more options and ways of helping your child.
We are all very well prepared for some fundraising and fun!! FOWS have a fun Quiz Night organised, see all the information below!! Tickets are available at the office, on Kindo or online banking at $20.00 per person.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING
Special news to celebrate! Congratulations to Seamus Avery, Year 6, I received news from the “Coast Swim Club” and Seamus’s Mum, we’re all so proud!:
“Last weekend we had a group of swimmers competing at the 2022 Auckland Championships at West Wave in Henderson. Seamus Avery was part of this team, and he won a Bronze meal in the 50 Fly. We are very proud of Seamus and wanted to share his achievement with you.” (Coast Swim Club).
Wainui School is also thrilled for you Seamus and very proud of your achievements!!
MasterChef Winners – At the end of term 2 announced at the final assembly was the winners of this years MasterChef!! I cannot thank the year 8 students particularly student counsellor Ashton Becker-Crawford for organising the show. MasterChef winners were:

THIS WEEK
- Mask wearing update – Thank you everyone for adhering to the new recommendations from the Ministry of Education. I have attached the letter sent home to all families again here in case you missed it. Recommended Advice on Mask Wearing We have plenty of masks at school both adult sized and children sized. If you need to obtain an exemption please follow the procedures or let us know at school.
- Team Planning and Newsletters – All the teams have planned the learning and teaching for the term, EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom), the sports, health and PE lessons, the arts and technology!! They are very much ready to go!! You will receive a full newsletter for the term this week with more details. Please do not hesitate to ask the teacher for any further clarification on the programmes.
COMING UP
- Learning Conversations – These are scheduled for week 3. Bookings can be made by following the process below. The learning conversation follows the mid-year summary report you would have received at the end of term 2. I am sure many of you have questions as it has been a year since you received a summative report with PACT (Progress and Consistency Tool) information. Please remember the last two and half years have been disrupted with COVID-19, if you are concerned at progress. Please also consider health and wellbeing, the biggest focus not just in our school but nationally and internationally that all schools and governments are concerned about.
Click on www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the Event Code: qaxpe
Step 1: Enter your email address, parents’ full name, number of students you are booking for and the student’s name/s. Click the “Go” button.
Step 2: For each student, select your child’s classroom under the first dropdown box and select their teacher under the second dropdown box. Click the “Go” button.
Step 3: Choose the time/s you would like for your Learning Conversation/s by clicking on a time slot that suits you. Missing checkboxes mean that the time has already been booked by someone else. Click the “Go” button.
You have the option to print out a copy of the time/s you have booked, a confirmation will also be emailed to you. You can view, change or cancel your booking by using the link in the email confirmation.
- The teachers are also going to look at the whole school achievement data over the next weeks to analyse and inform our next steps as a school for development. This will be reported to the Wainui School Board.
- Board Nominations still time!! The Board Elections are occurring soon, do consider standing as a parent Board member. Thank you to those who have already formalised your interest. If you wish to know more about standing I am happy to have a chat, Miss Ludwig is the Board Secretary as well as the Returning Officer and can help you with the process. Nomination forms have either been emailed or posted out to all eligible voters, if you haven’t received one they can be collected in the school office. Nominations close at noon on Wednesday 3rd August. The electoral roll is held at the school office and can be viewed during normal school hours.
- Ag Day 21st October – Planning and preparation is well under way for our annual Ag Day and Country Fair!
Harry and Bella Browne Hale with their Kid Goats all grown up!! Ag Day is on 21st October so if you are planning to have a wee bit of time off work or let grandparents know you can start planning ahead!!
- Chicks – Last day to order is this Friday, 29th July, $10 per chick. You can purchase them via Kindo or by emailing the office on exo@wainui.school.nz
- Animals, wasn’t it great to see Harry and Bella Browne Hale’s goats on stage or the last day of term. It is not too late to have an animal, raise and train for judging.
FINALLY
- Driveway and wet weather – Thank you for your patience on the first day back with this extreme wet weather. Please do ensure if you need to leave the car and find your child you have parked in one of the parking areas not at the top of the pick-up zone. This can really affect the flow of the traffic. Indicate when you are ready to move off from the drop-off/ pick-up zone, this helps everyone with driving safety.

OTHER
Cross Country – On Friday the 12th of August, we will be hosting our annual Cross Country House Day at Wainui School. Training will take place at school over the course of the next few weeks and home practise is encouraged.
Flippa-Ball Term 3 – If you are a Year 3/4 or Year 5/6 student interested in Flippa-Ball at the Stanmore Bay Leisure Centre, every Sunday, please contact Ms. Robinson – mrobinson@wainui.school.nz
Yummy Sticker Promotion – Yummy Stickers supply our school with great sports equipment for our students. Please remember to send your yummy stickers with your child to school, to give to their teacher. This promotion runs till the end of term 3. YUMMY!
