WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING
- MasterChef Heats – Have been awesome!! Congratulations to Student Councillor and chief organiser Harry Browne Hale and his fellow student councillors Oscar Price and Jakob Brown for their outstanding organisation, judging and clean up!! Congratulations to all of the contestants, so far we have had 4 heats, and all of the children involved have been so organised, passionate and keen to give their best. It has been so much fun!! Heats will be completed by the end of this week, and then we move into semi finals!! Keep an eye out, as I endeavour to post live on our facebook page each day.
SEMI-FINALS – Monday 19th June to Wednesday 21st June
Semi-Final 1 – Monday 19th June – Top 6 from Heats 1, 2 and 4
Semi-Final 2 – Tuesday 20th June – Top 6 from Heats 5 and 6
Semi-Final 3 – Wednesday 21st June – Top 6 from Heats 7 and 8
The top 3 dishes from each Semi-Final will go through to the Grand Final.
GRAND FINAL – Friday 28th July and Prizegiving
In true MasterChef style, in the Grand Final, the finalists will be allowed to cook anything either sweet or savoury, whatever they believe is their “signature dish”. They will have up to 45 minutes to prepare and cook their dish, and then they will present their dish to the judges.
We hope this gives you an overview of the MasterChef event and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email me [email protected].

Mathex – Last Thursday, an elite team of eight trained mathematicians channelled their inner Archimedes, Descartes, and Pythagoras and travelled to Northcross Intermediate to compete in the annual Year 7 and 8 North Shore Mathex Competition. Mathex is a challenging and fast-paced problem-solving competition where schools from across Auckland compete to answer 20 questions as quickly as possible. Our Year 8 team answered 9 questions correctly, and our Year 7 team answered 8 questions correctly, both in 30 minutes. I was extremely proud of them, and they were even more proud of each other!
In an auditorium of 400 Year 7 and 8 students, there was one Year 6 in the room! That Year 6 student was chosen as the ‘runner’ who exemplified respect, kindness, and resilience towards their marker and their own teammates. It was an emotional and gratifying experience when our very own William Hewitt was the recipient of this award!!
I would like to commend Ryan McCann, Harry Browne Hale, Jakob Brown, Travis Dunning, William Hewitt, Oscar Price, Reece McDermid-Venter, and Amelie Graves on their commitment and hard work! They all did an amazing job!! I can’t wait for next year! Mr. Nicholas Wotton.
- Japanese Students from Hatsushiba Ritsumeikan Junior High – Thank you to all the families that have offered to host one or two students! We still need more hosts. This is a great way of supporting the school, as each group of International students that comes and and visits our school contributes to our fundraising. It is also an amazing cultural experience for your family and for the student you host. Prior to the pandemic we hosted groups from this Junior High school for many years and have built up a very strong partnership. The teachers that come every year just love it here as well. The students are all 12-14 years old from Hatsushiba Ritsumeikan Junior High School. This age group works with all ages at our school, as they just love being with your family. If you want to know more about what this means, and would like to host a student, please come and chat to Mel Ludwig, myself or come to the meeting ” Hosting a Japanese student Q&A” on Wednesday 28th June at 3:00pm in the staffroom. We are all looking forward to renewing friendships!
