FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Kia ora Koutou,
Last week of Term 3. Spring is here and daylight saving starts this weekend!! The end of term is tidy up, return and pick up all forgotten lost clothing!! We have at least 40 jerseys and sweaters that need claiming as well as, shoes, jandals and some other bits and pieces. If not claimed this will be rehomed by a charity group who come in and wash the clothing as well.
Thank you to everyone who has paid outstanding expenses for trips, Garden to Table, etc and contributed their school donation!! This will enable us to meet all our expenses more comfortably. All monies can be paid through KINDO, internet banking or with cash at the school office. Each family has or will receive an invoice of all monies outsanding and a reminder to please contribute the school donation. Please be prompt as we would like to have this all sorted before the end of the term.
WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING
Ag Day and Country Fair Preparation – Is happening now. I have seen some wonderful arts and crafts being prepared to show at Ag Day. This year there is a change in how the stalls will be run. Each class will have a stall to organise the helpers for. The teacher will email all class parents to organise the roster to share the “load” as this is our biggest day so we need all the help we can. The person from your family on the stall could be an Aunty/ Grandma or family friend for just one hour!! Ag Day is Friday 25th October – please try and see if you can get the time off work to attend as it is a really wonderful day, full of tradition, animals, fun and interest!!
THIS WEEK
“Stella the Starfish ” is ready to go!! The Pukeko Team, our Junior school is “swimming” with excitement as the show they have been singing, dancing and learning their lines for is ready to go. The Matinee is Tuesday 24th September at 11.30am and the Evening Performance is Wednesday 25th September at 6.00pm. It will be great!!
FOWS Meeting – 7:00 pm Wednesday 25th September – Please come and join this amazing group of parents and support the school. The meeting is to organise the end of year events!! All new parents or those who have been around for a while are welcome to come. It is not a long meeting and everyone is very friendly!!
Movie/Popcorn and Pizza – This is happening this Thursday 26th September at 10.00am. 71 children are eligible to attend as they all sold more than one box of chocolates. There are also some spot prize children joining who sold one box. Congratulations everyone as we sold all the boxes and returned the money for every single box!!
Last Day of Term 3
Winter Sports Prizegiving 9:15 am. A special time to acknowledge the 9 Netball teams, 7 Hockey teams, 1 basketball team, AIMS Games competitors and all the coaches and administrators of these teams as well as the Cross Country placegetters. It will be a great assembly. See you all there.
School Assembly – Kiwi Team to lead this. Start time 2.15pm and we will celebrate the value of REFLECTION. All are very welcome.
FINALLY
End of School Year for 2019 – This is now Thursday 19th December. This date is on the school website calendar and due to the fact we had the Teacher Only Day last Friday (20th September) all children must attend school for 390 half days in 2019.
Attendance Certificates – These are awarded at the end of year Prizegiving for all children who have been at school 97% or over during the year. Last year we didn’t award these certificates as our computerised attendance sysytem was incorrect as it was new!! This year our system is all on track and accurate and we can resume this practice. Attendance is linked to achivement and engagement at school and there is a lot of research around this. At Wainui School we value attendance very much.
This will be the last time you receive a paper copy as well as the online copy of the newsletter!! The consensus from the community and BOT is to keep on with being environmentally conscious. If you would like a printed copy please let the office know and we can arrange one for you. I do realise not everyone has great internet!!
On that note enjoy a wonderful holiday and enjoy being a supporter of the Rubgy World Cup wherever you may be!!
Ka kite ano,
Gillian Bray

Ag Day Animal Registration Forms:
Thank you to everyone who has returned their registration form so far. Copies of these forms are available at the office and also on the web site.
Please send your registration forms back to school as soon as possible. Volunteer your time!!
This year we’re asking each class to find between 5-10 volunteers to man a stall for an hour on Ag Day. Manning a stall not only helps out on the day, but is a great way to meet other parents. A sign-up sheet will be available in your classroom (or email your teacher or [email protected], with your preferred time and we will add you to the list). Don’t worry full instructions of how to run each game will be set out at each game and a FOWS member will be coming around to check whether you need any help. The timing for each volunteer hour is as follows:
– 9.00am – 10.00am
– 10.00am – 11.00am
– 11.00am – 12.00pm
