Thank you to our wonderful community for coming on Friday to Ag Day and the Country Fair!! Wow, what a turnout, one of the biggest we have ever seen!! It was such a great day helped by fantastic weather. The schedule for the day ran very smoothly thanks to the incredible hard work led by our two leaders: Leslie Ann Linn (FOWS) and Kylie Allen (teacher). So much work occurred before, on, and at pack up to make this day happen!

Thank you to our Main Sponsor, Hutchinson’s, and also to our Key Sponsor, Simone du Bernard. Their generous contributions enabled us to ensure the food, prizes and tents were all supplied. We will not know the total funds raised until next week – so stay posted!

The classrooms looked amazing decorated with all of the art works and Ag Day crafts! A huge thank you to all the grandparents and friends that volunteered to be judges – they were wonderful and I just loved meeting up with them all!  Much of the art work is still on display in the classrooms and it is just stunning to see all the bright colours and creativity shining through.

It is always wonderful to see the care and the time that has gone into raising the lambs, calves, kid goats and chickens. Congratulations to each and every family as this is a huge commitment!! We had:

  • 2 Calves
  • 15 Lambs
  • 7 Kid Goats
  • 13 Chickens

To everyone who volunteered and helped:  THANK YOU, please do it again next year – we need you all!!

FOWS Meeting – Wednesday 25th October 7pm – The FOWS meet to celebrate, debrief events, and plan further! What an amazing group of supporters, please come and join and lend support to these wonderful parents.

Camp Raglan Planning Meeting (Final) Wednesday 5:30pm in Staffroom – Just one week to go and the year 5-8 students and their teachers will be off to Camp Raglan. We wish you a great time! Gets lots of sleep this weekend to ensure you have even more fun!!

NEXT WEEK

Camp Raglan – Education Outside the Classroom is highly valued by Wainui School, doing so encourages the development of all our 5 values, enables children to try new activities, learn new physical skills, make new friends and have fun. Thank you to all the parents attending camp this is a big commitment and we are so fortunate to always have so many parents that want to go to camp.

COMING UP

Group Day – Friday 3rd November – For all students who had a calf, lamb, or kid goat if you were awarded a ribbon. Group Day is the inter-school of Ag Day animal judging!! The schools involved come together from a wider region from Waioneke School to Coatesville, out to Dairy Flat.

Teacher Only Day – Friday 17th November – A date set by the Ministry of Education for us all to ensure we have time to develop, improve and reflect on our teaching practices. With a change of government, there will be a change of reporting procedures.

Athletics Days – All dates are set for athletics for all ages, please see website. The junior and senior athletics are on separate days due to space restraints.

FINALLY  

Thank you to everyone who has made us aware of their plans for 2024, as much as we are still learning, we are also planning ahead. Planning is well in place for 2024.

Kylie’s last Ag day UPDATE! – A big thank you for a fabulous day on Friday!

To the children with animals, you were all super stars! Congratulations and well done on the great work in rearing your animals. I know how much time goes into rearing the animals and you all did so well! I hope you all had fun and enjoyed the competition in the ring!

SOUTH KAIPARA GROUP DAY: If you received a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th ribbon at Ag Day then you are eligible to come along and represent Wainui School at South Kaipara Schools Group Day. It is held at the Helensville Showgrounds on Friday 3rd of November. Please email Mel at exo@wainui.school.nz if you wish to go. I will be there on the day with you – I can’t wait!

 For our volunteers who helped man the stalls – wow! It was an extremely busy day, and I had 162 slots to fill and only 50 volunteers – thank you for filling in and stepping in to do extra time for me. We simply couldn’t run the day without you, so THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

To our judges (both in the classrooms and animal rings) and stewards – thank you for volunteering your time to help us. We enjoyed having you and we hope to see you again next year!

Chess Tournament – Hi it’s me again Harry BH. I have decided to postpone Wainui School’s Inaugural Chess Tournament until the week of 6-10 November as I would really like more students to be involved. Danté Broederlow – Golf
During the last week of the school holidays, Danté entered the US Kids Golf New Zealand Open and won the 6 & under division by 19 shots. This is a big step towards reaching his dream goal of going to the US Kids Championship at Pinehurst USA, which is the same competition as seen in the Netflix movie ‘The Short Game’.  Also, Danté recently hit a hole-in-one on the 9th hole of the Wainui Orchid 9 course (par 3 @ 76mtrs). He was very happy with this achievement as some golfers go their whole lifetime without ever getting an ace, but to get one while being in Year 1 is pretty cool. Tee it high and let it fly, Danté.

Yael Adiv Blanario – Rock Climbing

Recently, Yael competed in his first national rock climbing competition, the La Sportiva National Youth and Masters Bouldering Championships. He competed in the under 12 years old category, and, at 7 and a half, was the youngest! In this competition. He finished with a ranking of 7th, which was an amazing achievement for his first national event, handling both the pressure and the timing factor. His parents were extremely proud of him for not only competing but for failing and falling, only to get back on his feet, with a smile on his face, to try again. We are proud of you as well, Yael!

Camryn Colquhoun – BMX

Over Labour Weekend, Camryn raced at the Waitakere BMX Club in the BMXNZ North Island Champs. Camryn, who rides for the Mountain Raiders BMX Club, finished 7th in this event last year and had a goal of making the top five this year. She competed hard throughout the weekend against some tough opposition and ended up finishing 5th in the final of the 9-year-old girls, which meant she achieved her goal! Camryn’s sister, Sophie, who is an ex-Wainui student, won the 13-year-old girl’s final, making her the top North Island rider. Well done on your fantastic results girls!
