Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I certainly would not have expected the first newsletter of the year to be one such as this. However it is what it is!!!
- SCHOOL OPENING AND SAFETY
- BUSES
- SWIMMING POOL
SCHOOL OPENING AND SAFETY
Wainui School will now be open for instruction and learning on Tuesday 7th February. The office will be open on Thursday 2nd February from 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. and then from Tuesday 7th February. This is a result of the Directive from the Secretary of Education whilst we are all experiencing this State of Emergency.
Today the school buildings and grounds have been throughly checked for flooding, damage and safety. We are very fortunate this time our school buildings have no serious damage or been affected by floods.
Some areas of the grounds have been affected but nothing that will affect the school opening or the safety of children’s play.
Areas affected –
- Bike track – severely rutted.
- Bottom senior playground- mulch affected, will need topping up.
- Junior sandpit needs topping up.
- Areas of the bush trees have come down.
We will call on the school community for a working bee during the term to get on top of the tremendous growth seen over the wet summer, to clear and tidy the debris from the stream that rose so high, and to look at clearing the fallen trees in the bush. We would love our gardens to return to how they were!!
The staff will all meet over the next two days now we know the school is safe and ensure we are all ready for learning programmes to start next week.
BUSES
Our bus company, GOBus has messaged to say they will check all routes for safety on Friday February 3rd. We will inform you if there are any problems or changes that need to be made in good time for Tuesday.
SWIMMING POOL
The swimming pool will remain closed until the State of Emergency is lifted, or we are sure the weather will not cause any more issues. I know some of you will wish to use the pool over the long weekend if the weather changes. We will keep you all informed as to when it will open again. The swimming pool has been well looked after over the summer by parent Ben Meikle, thank you Ben.
Despite this extreme weather I hope like me you managed to get some nice time either away or at home to enjoy the holidays. I know as always the students will be really keen to get back to school as we are really keen to see them all and start the school year. I sincerely hope our families are not too badly affected by the storms and if you are affected, things are drying out and starting to look better. Take care everyone, let’s hope this next extreme weather bomb isn’t too bad.
See you all soon.
Gillian
