FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Fakaalofa Lahi Atu!! Hello to everyone in Niuean, it is Niuean language week and Tavana McCulluch in year 6, taught me this! I look forward to learning a few more words this week.
THIS WEEK is count down to Ag Day!! 3 days to go!! I want to congratulate every animal owner, it is a huge commitment to raise a lamb, kid goat or calf! We can’t wait to see your animal and we wish you well. We also can’t wait to see our chickens that have been raised, along with the cage you bring and the information you share. Students without an animal or chicken are to bring in their “Pet Eggs” and their habitats on Friday morning and put them in the hall for judging!!
The school looks even better since our Working Bee on Friday afternoon!! Thank you to everyone who lent a hand!!
THURSDAY
- Families have been given a cake box to fill and bring back on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.
- Thursday the FOWS and some staff will be setting up the animal pens, the cafe, the games and the school in general.
- All students will be doing final touches and setting up their arts and crafts for judging in their classrooms.
- Judging of the classrooms starts at 3:00pm on Thursday afternoon. I have a great group of grandparents, ex-teachers, and friends that are doing this. Thank you all!!
FRIDAY 20th Ag Day – Is a school day and we call the roll 3 times.
- All students from other schools under the age of 14 must be supervised/ come with an adult.
- We still need more volunteers please let us know if you can give even an hour of your time on the day.
- Big thank you to Hellers for sponsoring the sausages, Fruit World for donating fruit and veg, Hutchison our Principal Sponsor for enabling us to purchase more prizes, buy the coffee and milk etc., to Key Sponsor Simone du Bernard of Harcourts Cooper & Co for providing us with the cake boxes, the prize tent and animal ribbons!
- Parents, grandparents, friends and families – your children love being with you, please come along and join in the fun!!
Update # 11 – Only 3 more sleeps until Ag Day!!
Note from Kylie:
I am looking forward to seeing the animals in the rings and seeing all the hard work and effort the children have put into the training and rearing of their animals! I am also looking forward to seeing the classroom exhibits and playing the games!
A massive thank you from all of us for your donations, the volunteering of your time to help man the stalls and of course helping your children with the training of either their animals or in the making of their pet eggs.
Donations: A huge thank you to those who have been dropping off donations for Ag Day raffles and games. This week’s donation is the baking of a cake, slice, muffins, or cupcakes for the cake stall. Please drop the cake boxes filled with yummy goods off to the cake stall outside the staffroom on Friday morning.
Pet Eggs: We are looking forward to seeing these amazing creations! You can drop these off to the hall on Thursday at the earliest and Friday morning by 9am at the latest. Don’t forget to bring the Pet Egg info sheet with your egg creation Pet Egg Information sheet.
Tickets: This event will use a ticket system. These tickets are what you use to pay for food, drinks, raffle tickets and to play games. This means that each stall (except for all the market stalls – which will take cash only) will only take tickets. The tickets are available at the ticket booth and this will be on the top court in front of the office. You can pay by cash or Eftpos will also be available from here (though there is no cash out facility available). One ticket equals $1.
We are always needing more volunteers! Thank you to those who have filled in the volunteer form to help us on Ag Day, especially the families who are giving us more than one hour of your time – it is hugely appreciated. Here is the link to the form Volunteer Form for Ag day if you haven’t done so already.
Parking: On the day, the little bush road car park (the car park on the left as you come in the school gate) is for children bringing animals for Ag Day. The top car park by the swimming pool is for our preschool visitors, visitors from Motuora, animal judges and visiting grandparents.
If you have any questions about Ag Day, please email me on: [email protected] otherwise I look forward to seeing you there! Nga mihi. Kylie Allen

FINALLY
Sun Smart Wainui School – We welcome the warmth and sun in term 4 and with that we fully implement our Sun Smart policies and expectations. All children need to wear a hat when they are outside at all times. Sunscreen is provided but feel free to have your own small container and apply before each break. We do provide sunscreen at school. We encourage children to cover up shoulders in the strong sun, better to wear a light T-shirt than a tank top for example- as we all love being outside!
See you all on Friday – rain, hail or shine!!
Mutololu Kia – Goodbye to you!
